I'm after any advice about a rare but occasional problem. On occasions when I press the starter button it seems as though there is a power drain and the dash blanks out. The bike will start but then the display seems to reset to a default setting. I would guess that it's happened about 5 or 6 times in the last year, once after a 20 mile run. The battery charging system does show just over 14V when running and just over 12V with ignition on, it doesn't drop too far when pressing the starter, except, I suspect for these odd occasions. The bike is just over 5 years old with 54000 miles. Asking now as I'm planning to sell and the local shop won't take it due to what they think is an intermittent dash fault.

TIA

Might just need a new battery.?? How old is the battery?

To the best of my knowledge, the battery is original, the bike is from Sept 2016.

Yep had two or three old batteries do this .. new battery time I expect...

or a battery lead is loose and make an intermittent connection

New battery despite BMW telling me it was fine.

For what its worth my 2019 model did that to me twice. On both occasions it reset all sorts of things like the trips, the mpg and importantly the suspension didn't work properly after it. Had to get dealer to reset the suspension which they did for nowt but nonetheless it shouldn't have happened . Never did get to the bottom of why it did it.... I suspected a battery issue but it was only 2 years old so didn't change it and they wouldn't under warranty... sold the bike in the end.... this was the final straw...
