I first met David Leslie in 1988 when we raced against each other in the same series. Since then it was always my pleasure to meet him again at race meetings and track days.
He was a superb development driver - his work with RML in developing the underfunded Proton resulted in the team punching well above its weight. But he was also a great racing driving with a string of strong results in the BTCC, Le Mans and for Ecurie Ecosse.
Latterly he had moved to commentary and lecturing in motor-sports management but never lost his passion for the sport and his great bon homme character.
It seems that David died in the tragic accident at Biggin Hill yesterday. He will be greatly missed.
