As title suggests please. .. Looking for suggestions for a decent 1 day loop in france, starting and ending in calais.

I have just hastily booked the tunnel tomorrow. ..8.20 check in.

Thanks a million in advance :thumb2

Head south for 3 hours ,west for 2hours ,north east for 3 hours should do it and stop at what ever takes your fancy on the your map in between :D:D:thumb

Aim for Castel on the French-Belgium border, park in the square. Walk up the hill to the windmill and take in the views. Imagine the German Army heading towards you over the flat plains. Go into the tiny estaminet (small bar) a few yards away and drink wonderful micro-brews along with a cheese platter. Ride back to Calais.

First thing to remember is 0820 check in is 0920 French time, so if you are on the train it will be 1010 ish by the time you get off the train, even later if you are on a ferry :D :blast

Which is one of Wappings 2 day beginers Wanders and cut it to suit.

If it was me I'd hea up to Ypres (Ieper as the locals call it) in Belgium do some of the WW1 cem's in the area have lunch in the town square, buy SWMBO some Belgium Chcolate then head home via Calais

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I was just being lazy. ... have cobbled a route together which should be doable in the time.

This is my first ride of the year and probably last of 2013 so just wanna ride. .. cafes / towns and cemeteries are all well and good but maybe next time.

Thanks a lot. :thumb

On Thursday I'm going to aim to do coast road to Boulogne for seafood lunch then Le Touquet for ice cream before tunnel home. Looked alright to me.

The roads in the area are not the most interesting IMO, so for me it is all about cafes and towns. Each to their own though! :thumb

I did a day trip with Mrs Nev a few weeks ago - caught a train at 8 ish and rolled down the coastal road to Le-Touquet for lunch - rode back up to Calais and bought some things we didn't need in Cite Europe before heading back to the tunnel. This is where things went a bit pear-shaped.

Fire in the tunnel lead to HUGE delays - our booking was for 5.50pm but at one point they were predicting a departure of 00.45am the next day! Finally got on the train at 9.45pm and got back home to Nev Towers at about 11pm.

It was a nice day out though and I thought the coast road down to Le-Touquet was OK.

A few days after we got back I got an e-mail from Eurotunnel apologising for the trouble and giving me a refund for the delayed section of the journey, plus a free crossing for the bike (+2) valid until the end of August 2014.

Pretty good service I thought.

+1 :thumb

The country roads are a lot less congested than the South of England, but IMO nothing special, all the really good stuff is 1-2 days ride from Calais.

Having said that I always really enjoy riding in the French countryside, the combination of very little traffic and the laid back culture (OK, everywhere seems deserted and nothing is ever open) make for pleasant riding.

look pon the ride magazine website. They have loads of loops and routes from all ports etc. Even the complete gpx files. Or look at Wappings posts. He knows it all bakcwards and his routes are well thought out.
