Hi all , thought you might be intrested in my downfall.

I've just got my Daytonas back complete with new zip ( only one replaced out of four) and nice new soles. So whats the problem you are asking yourself????????????? The £152 pound bill. I nearly had a heart attach. So , have I been bummed by the dealer or are they this dear to have done.???? Not sure what to do, complain??? I didnt ask the price before they where sent because I didnt expect a bill like that.

Shut up and put up?

Your comments please guys. ( including piss taking , i need a bit more abuse).

Ian

who actually did the work? I doubt if it was the dealer. If you did not request a price before the work was done I can't see how you can complain. I would ask if the price was a mistake and then ask for a breakdown of the work parts labour postage ect. Also try to find out who actually done the work and get a estimate from them. Sounds dear. You could buy a new pair of Altbergs for that. Sounds like the dealer had a nice mark up. JJH

I didnt ask a price as I assumed ( wrongly) soles couldnt be too expensive.
Thanks for the idea ill ask for a breakdown.
They went back to Germany for the work.

If they went back to Germany the carrage would be dear each way. Why dont you contact the people in Germany your self and ask what the job would cost? JJH

That's the going rate for a Daytona refurb according to a mate who worked for a GLF in Flitwick. A large part of the cost will be shipping back to the factory in Germany plus the exchange rate won't do you any favours.

What is the RRP for a new pair? If it is £300 then the work is probably worthwhile as you should get the same amount of use from the boots as the original period.

I have a pair of Daytona Highways that could do with a refurb but I think I will try a pair of boots costing around £150 to see if they do the job. The Highways aren't the best of fit since I injured my leg anyway, as my left foot seems to have changed shape after months of chronic inflammation.

Daytona boots go back to Germany for repair and the charge is around £20 for carriage, the boots are grouped together at the importers then sent to Germany in bulk to save cost. Mine had a new main zip which was replaced FOC but I was told the cost would have been £90 including £20 for the carriage if I'd have been a paying customer.

How long did yours take? Mine went in May and were back this Monday.

Looks like the going rate so. Its like everything else these days nearly cheaper to replace than repair. JJH

Can't remember exactly what I paid for my Daytona's 2 or 3 years ago but seem to recall a figure around the 200Euro mark, saw this thread and Ian's repair bill so decided to look at biker-land.de website, if my boots develop a fault or need a repair I think I'll bin 'em and buy new :nenau

My Daytona boots were resoled earlier this year and the total cost came to £85. I can't remember the cost if I had wanted them relined as well.

we take in daytona's in at the TT shop.
its approx 90 quid for a resole.
more for a reline and as the first post another price for the zips..
they are nice boots..
just too rich for my money!

Hardly think bike boots are worthy of a visit to the German cobblers, time to eBay them and flog them and onto a new pair, if you have worn the sole out the interior and waterproofing must be close to death

Some good comments , thanks guys.
If they last the same amount of time ( 6 1/2 years) then it's money spent in the right direction.
They are the most comfy boots I've ever owned and ok , the first outlay was big , but Im putting this down to " you gets what you pays for".

Thanks again for input.

had a pair of Daytonas totally refurbed (sole outers, all zips and fresh Goretex lining) for £130 all in a couple of years ago.

Daytona have now changed their pricing structure and charge per item so the prices have gone up a fair bit. Still, I have 2 pairs that must have done 60k miles between them and still polish up a treat with probably another 40k left in them. Can't complin really.

Had my Roadstars for over 8 years and they are badly in need of refurb. Keep saying to Graham I'll drop them off. But last year I picked up a new pair on ebay so much cheaper it just isn't worth sending the old ones away, especially as they need soles and zips.
I am thinking about seeing what a local cobbler would do to replace the soles to have them as spares, or to just use until the zips go completely, I just have to pull them up every 50-100 miles or so at the moment.
Struggling to wear the new ones in at the moment, they are so solid compared to the old ones.
