Some time ago I was in need of a new car. I fancied something a little different, rugged, versatile, do most things well. So I decided to invest some very hard earned pennies on a Landrover Freelander. I did my research with dilligence and found that it had some reliability issues, the reviews were not good! I said to myself surely people only review things when they are not happy. So i went ahead and bought it. Great car, good colour, fun and comfy. 10 days later........... in the middle of the alps the rear diff collapsed. Left the car at a local garaged and was promised by my breakdown company that it would be transported back to the UK at some point. 4 weeks later I clapped eyes on it again. 2 weeks later the brakes failed........... while being fixed at the dealers, it was stolen from their secure compound. Never to be seen again!!!

Please, please, please tell me I am not going to make the same mistake again when I spend my hard earned pennies on a 1200 GSA!!

only the earlier uns,
but i think they are mostly sorted now?

But I can only afford one of the early ones! Once again alarm bells are ringing.:blast

Somebody did you a huge favour with the freelander:thumb As to the GS issue, there are a few tales over reliability but they really are in a different league to anything ever made by Land-Rover. If you're worried, why not buy an immaculate 1150? Just as much fun without most of the gripes.

Thanks Dick, that's not a bad idea and could potentially save a thousand or so! Still prefer the look of the 12GSA.

How about what they look like on the back of a recovery truck?

Seriously - my 2006 GSA has only required one Esw ring
and one fuel pump controller.

Hi Flaming,
My lovely 1150gsa se is still up for grabs, before it goes in for p/ex on thursday.
Just down the road from you in Beverley.
Listed in the f/s section and now a little cheaper.

Have had 4 GS/A 1200's - All have stood reasonably high mileages and not had any problems. First I had was an 04 and that did 30K + with no problems on it.

The problems with the earlier models are well documented and none are very expensive. The 2 most common are :

*Fuel pump controller ( Can be worked around for a roadside fix)
*EWC ( Ignnition ring immobiliser ) that if you were worried about - you could carry a spare (seem to remember they were around £50)
* Final drive shaft leaking - Not an easy home fix and not really cheap.

In my experience '08 onwards are the most "sorted" bikes, '06 onwards - they had got to grips with a lot of the earlier problems and did a lot of fixes under recall .

As many will tell you - dont worry about mileage, as long a service record and signs of proper care have been dilligently observed.

Whatever anyone tells you - the 1200's are great bikes as are 1100's / 1150's although they do have their own issues as well - the main difference is that they are easier to "spanner" yourself at home.

Good luck in finding one to suit :thumb2

Thanks for the thought Steve, but I can't muster up that amount of cash at the moment. A real beauty though.:thumb:thumb:thumb
