"The early F650 GS bikes had to have a new throttle housing and throttle cable holder, the later ones have two positions on the throttle quadrant for the throttle cable to clip in and would also need the different cable holder. This is all that is required to restrict an F650GS to 33 bhp. There was talk of having to recode the engine electrics but as far as I know this is not required.
We recommend this is done by a dealer so that a letter of authority can be given to the customer for insurance purposes as there is no certificate as such to say that this modification has been carried out."
Here's an image of the throttle body quadrant. For "unrestricted" it goes in the red circle slot ... for "restricted" in the other outer slot.
I guess you'll need to look at the throttle quadrant to see if it has both 'slots'. If it only has the one I'm guessing it's the 'earlier' model. They didn't give me a frame number where the change-over ocurred.
The F650GS Dakar has exactly the same engine as the F650GS, so that will make no difference.
