Appreciate any help on this.

Had a power cut earlier and it has completely killed my mouse, will not move the curser. This was a BenQ wireless mouse, have now plugged in a microsoft mouse and that is also deceased!

Running windows XP with service pack 1, keyboard still functional.

Wouldn't be as bad if I could remeber how to use the shortcuts when no mouse is connected.

Any help gratefully received.

Hello Judge

Tried that and still the same, so changed to a wired microsoft mouse. Still nothing. Using a wired keyboard (gave up with the RF keyboard long ago), presume it uses the same PS2 driver? Could it be a S/W glitch (have rebooted a couple of times with no change).

Have plugged in a USB mouse and it still doesn't work. In control panel, mouse setings the mouse can be seen and recognised.
Very odd indeed.

Could be a driver glitch but PS/2 ports have got a power line included so it may be the port itself if it went out with a power cut.

Worth reinstalling the drivers if you can without a mouse - it can be done, it just takes an interesting amount of tab, ctrl-tab, alt-tab, cursor keys and spacebar work :D Remember - Ctrl-esc is your friend for getting the Start menu up.

It might be worth begging, borrowing or stealing a USB mouse temporarily to see if you need to get one permanently because the PS/2 port is shagged...

EDIT: - timed that well! Answered the USB question before I asked it. I'd go with an "update driver" to see what happens.

I've given up and have decided to put my hand in my pocket!

Just dropped it off at the shop I bought it from, he can fix it. Also ordered some extra hardware:cool:

Dead Mouse in Windows - here's the fix:
UNPLUG the PC from mains power supply - don't just turn it off under windows - you have to physically remove the power source from it. Plug it back in, start windows in the normal way,and hey presto your mouse will work again!!!

Mucho thanks. You are right it worked, trouble is I got charged for my lesson:rolleyes:
Well he serviced the PC, hoovered the fluff out and updated anything updatebale, also sold me a new mouse (which I did need).
Just £97 + VAT, makes GS servicing seem cheap.
