Plugged My garmin Zumo 550 in wednesday and it's was dead as a door nail. It was working fine the day before. Any suggestions? TIA

Ta steve, I'll try it :thumb2

If that fails - try and borrow someone else's battery, and give it a try.

If that fires it up, try your original again (double check)

If still duff - bite the bullet and get a new battery.

Thank's for the advice. I have taken the battery out and waited 5 min before refitting it and the Zumo is still dead. The mini reboot won't work either. Next step will be to call over a mate's place later this week and try his battery in it :thumb2

I changed the battery on my Zumo with one from a friend's Zumo and it seems my battery and GPS are totally dead. Is it worth sending it off to find what the faults are or is it best to upgrade from my 5 yr old knackered GPS to a newer one? Anyone had their old Zumo repaired? TIA

Send it back to Garmin UK for repair (with quote)

You may find they give you a good deal on a new 660

My experience of Garmin UK has been excellent - I had to return an old non-mapping unit some years ago, it had failed way out of warranty but they simply sent me a replacement, FOC. More recently there was a recall on one of the Nuvi car range. Again, sent back (at their cost) a unit that was maybe 2 years old and they did whatever needed to be done and returned same to me, without charge. So, you might be pleasantly surprised, as I was!

Well I returned my broken Zumo 550 and Garmin were pretty helpful and offered me a refurbished 550 for £110-ish.

The refurbished 550 turned up a week later but refused to boot up and just displayed a Zumo tm on the screen for 5 seconds before turning itself off. I phoned Garmin and they offered to collect the replacement unit and send another one. The second replacement turned up this morning and it is doing exactly the same as the first replacement: displays 'Zumo' against a blue screen and turns off after 5 seconds.
I have connected it to my computer but the computer can't find it.

I phoned Zumo and they are going to arrange free collection of the second replacement and send a third refurbished unit. I am missing something (quite likely as I am useless with technology) or have I just been unlucky with the replacement units?

I expected to take the satnav out the box and for it to start up and be ready to use like my first unit did when it was new.

That's wierd............

Send them a "poor me" e-mail, mentioning that you have had a lot of problems being unable to use your paid-for replacement............

They may even send you one with a full refund :thumb

Sounds like they have been sent out to you with no charge in the batteries - try fitting it to your bike cradle to see if it works with the bike power feed.

That looks like the problem :blast I connected to the computer and after 30 minutes the unit was still turning itself off but after 4 hrs on the mains charger the battery is charging and the unit starts up. Cue jokes about being a prospective 1200 owner :D
