Can some of you give me an idea of what you think a dealer might give cash for a 2002 Dakar with ABS, Heated grips and BMW cases with about 12,000 miles and fsh ?
Traded in my 02 dakar at £3800 against gs 12 3months ago with 5500 kms on. I would think around £3250 to 3400 ish. There are couple for sale on f650 site at v£3800 ish
Thanks Basil. I've been offered one for £3000 which I've now test ridden. The only thing that concerns me is that the revs seem to stick at or just above 2000rpm when the engine revs are decreasing after a throtlle blip before returning to tickover at about 1500rpm, which means when riding at London speeds that the engine is a bit juddery at low speeds. (It looks like its been ridden fairly hard but does have full documented service history.)
Has anbody any experience of this ? Is is normal or should I be wary ?

That's the *normal* behaviour of the fuel-injected F650 bikes made from 2000 - 2004.
The software has been engineered like that to prevent the engine stalling during downchanges, so the tickover stays fairly high (2,000rpm) till you've almost stopped. When I had my '01 F650GS, the clutch was often lightly disengaged in those sort of riding conditions.
The '04 models have an *improved* fuel-injection system where the engine will run at lower tickover speeds (1,500rpm) and the newer bikes from March '04 onwards will 'lug' at low speeds.
Thanks for your input chaps. It isn't an ex-off road one-had two private owners.
Trevor, I spoke to BMW at Oxford this morning who didn't seem to think what I was describing was normal. (although what you say does seem feasible) On the basis of that I've negotiated a further reduction as it was thought that perhaps an idle valve might need replacing. The bike is a good deal providing there are no nasty control unit problems and I don't want to deny him any more of his own hard earned cash. Does anybody else have any input they think will be helpful to me before some money changes hands ?
Yes, that is the general idea, hopefully next May/June. I wish I'd chosen a different name.....(but that's another story !)...appauling in't it. :cockeye
