Deleted items.

Is it possible to retrieve a document from the deleted file, don't laugh. I put a valuble document into deleted items by mistake then a few days later emptied the deleted folder and now i'am stuffed.
But the reason I ask is it possible to get it back is I watched a program on the tele not so long ago "watchdog or something" going on about how thousands of recycled computers end up in dodgy nigerian towns and how all the private info stored on the hard drive (disc) remains intact unless wiped correctly............ so does that mean my valueble document is still in my comp' somewhere.

yes, it's only the link to it that has actually been deleted. plenty of programs available that will find it for you as long as you haven't overwritten that bit of the disc.

can't remember any of the names of these progs at the moment. try googling "undelete".

If it's been deleted recently, it'll be in your 'recycle bin'.

Open that folder, select the file, and click 'restore'.

Grab this freeware program....should do all you want. Would probably try to run it from cd or floppy so installing it doesn't overwrite the file on disk. When you delete files it just removes its entry in the file allocation table showing that those disc sectors are free to write new data to.
