We have upgraded (i think) to an apple mac so we no longer need or use the dell pc

i have removed the hard drive which was a 640 GB Serial ATA non Raid

so it will need to replace it with your own hard drive and operating system.
the microsoft code is on the back of the pc (if that helps)
it is fitted with
XPS 420 E8500 Core 2 Duo Processor 3.16GHz, 6MB, 1333MHz
Memory 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 800MHz [4x1024MB]
19-in-1 Bluetooth Media Card reader
4x Blu-Ray Disc Drive & DVD Drive
Graphics Card : 512MB ATI Radeon 3870
TV Tuner and AVIO / Accelerator and remote
Modem Internal V.92 PCI (Data, Fax)
also included is a dell keyboard and a wireless logitech mouse.

Whats it worth - seems too good to throw away..

any help would be great

If you already know Mac's and know that you will get on with one then fair enough, sell it.
BUT, if you are new to Mac's then I would hang onto the Dell for a while, you MIGHT not get on with the Mac.

It's a straight 'some do, some don't'.....I'm a year in on a Mac and I still don't like it.....but then again I don't like Windows 10 either....:blast

Without the HD or "a copy" of the hidden Repair partition its not worth much

Why not get someone who knows to format the HD and "restore" it to original and allow it to do its updates ?

Then its an operational "Clean" pc with none of your data on it ?

Thanks for the reply

the HD was cleaned but SWMBO does not want it to go with the machine hence why we have taken it out.

You say its not worth much, is £40 too much to expect?

Can but try "BUT" if you knew some savvy bod who could copy the ISO of the original Disk image from your hard drive

Basically You can hand that on a memory stick and someone at least has a starting point with Drivers etc etc

£40 would be reasonable given no HD or Software
