You will be +1 all those that have said 'cc-cleaner' as I call it.

Just tried the ccleaner and it says my computer is ill!! 1763 issues but the free version only sorts 25 faults!!

The cost is £25, is it a worthwhile purchase? If I bought a disc rather than a download, would I be able to clean up both computers in the house?

Gents,

You are all right, I did go to the CCleaner website but going through what I did again, it took yme via the FileHippo.com route, which installed Registry Reviver, which wanted £25 to clean up my computer!!

I tried again just now and rather than clicking on the FileHippo download, I clicked on 'other download' and I was then taken to the Piriform.com route, which in turn downloaded CCleaner.com, which, as you say, cleared my computer for FREE!

Hope this makes sense?

Don't blame filehippo as such, theres plenty of ways the hackers/software numpties trick people into paying for a product which they/you have been directed too.

Glad you found the proper CCleaner.


Now have you done the registry section part of cc-cleaner (again as i call it)?

side-note; do you use IE (Internet Explorer from mickysoft) for web browsing...please tell me you use Firefox!

While you're at it, get Auslogistics defragger, it's more efficient than the standard Window$ one.

Yes, Firefox is a good browser, I've used it for about 7 years. It's less resource hungry than IE. You could also look at Opera and Safari while you're at it. All are probably more secure than IE, if only because less people use them and they are all probably faster too.

There is also Thunderbird which is available to replace Outlook Express.

I f you run CCleaner on it's default settings, it will indeed remove saved usernames and passwords when you use it. If you look at the IE check boxes when you open it, the box next to Autocomplete Form History should be unchecked IIRC

Okay SilverRat, google morzilla/firefox (same thing bud). Or the other browsers that have been offered up..but I cannot guide you with them as such.

You should do one thing when you install firefox, that is 'import favourites' from IE. (*Seriously IE from mickeysoft is so open to hackers its like they want uses to get virus's or problems so you buy another lame/shite OS (Operating system) from M$*, rant over)

Now assuming you've installed firefox & placed a copy of your favourites (export from internet explorer) into its contents , there are 2-3 more small programs (FREE) that will help you further take control of your internet.

See main firefox page or google the add-ons by name.

They allow you to temporarily let adverts or possible movies play in the website window. If you allow the advert, it stays there full time every-time you visit the site. Also means you see that advert on other sites if its from same company/provider.

Lastly you will need to download Adobe flash player, by visiting a website like www.Liveleak.com (A bar appears at the top of the page & you click on it & read instructions..all quite simple but please PM me to check this thread for help).

Right then, once you have done all that I'd say do one more thing! Back-up your favourites by exporting them to your desktop & either attaching them to an email to ones-self. (Do people realise you can email your own email?? Which provides a certain amount of storage for free,...ow dear I hope you don't use Hotmail!! LOL)

Open firefox > Bookmarks tab > Organise Bookmarks > Export HTML/target desktop for ease of location

Please know SilverRat that you cannot uninstall IE, but you can fully uninstall firefox if its not your cup-of-tea, Paddy
