Before venturing off road I removed the mirrors and screen. I promptly destroyed both OE font indicators. I was wondering whether anyone has come across a set of easily detatchable indicators for an 1150GS?

Yes, you just have ------ sorry i couldn't resist it --

See if you can get hold of a Motrax catalog.page 44 has some flexible mounted indicaters(bend not snap off) only £9.99 pair. If you can get hold some KTM do some rubber mounted ones as well. If you are doing a bit of off road type stuff could be worth a tenner and save the originals.;)

Steptoe - Thanks, but I can assure you that my way of detaching the indicators did not fall into the 'easily' category in any way whatsoever.
(And they didnt detach, they just disintegrated) :(

Indicators

In enduro stuff you can find flexible indicators, but can't remember
who from just now.

What I've found is..

If you attach the front blinkers to the handle bars so that the front of the blinker is behind part (or parts) of the handle bar than they don't get hit in a fall. This works on both the K75 G/S and the R80 G/S so I don't see any reason for it not to work on the R1XXX GS?

The rear blinkers on the other hand are a consumable.. and that is annoying!

I've seen in off-road catalogues indicators fitted into the hand guards. Could you fit some car type side repeater flashers into the handguards?.

Just a thought.

I have already fitted 16 LED units (in a flexible plastic coating) onto each handguard, but I have wired these up as running lights. Unfortunaltely there is not the room to fit another set as indicators.
I did consider re-wiring them as indicators, but dont want to lose the running lights if I can avoid it, and I am not completely sure that the righthand indicator would be visible to oncoming traffic when I most need it to be, eg, turning right on a roundabout.
Another reason for not doing so is that LEDs tend to be very visible when you are looking directly at them, but dont seem to offer good peripheral light, and I kinda want indicators that can be seen from as many different angles as possible.

I could put non LED repeaters in, but having smacked the handguards against trees (whilst on the move) and into the ground (when crashing) I doubt these would survive any better than the original ones did.

My handgards need replacing.. I've almost worn throgh the plastic.

The indicators I'm using are after market ones for Honda XRs .. they have 10 watt globes .. but 20 watt globes fitted and they have not distorted through heat. I had some kawasaki ones that bolted to the handel bars .. but they don't fit wioth the big tank.

These blinkes are bolted to the underside of the mirror mounts, so under the bars.

I have fitted the Touratech flexible mini indicators front and rear. Other mates have done the same, from their experience I can safely say that they work very well.

I have seen quite a few 1100 and 1150's on the ground and if you don't have these fitted you'll have broken front indicators.

Fitment of the mini indicators, completely solves this problem.

Mick.

I've got the Touratech ones fitted as well and they work a treat; cost somewhere round the £30 mark for a set. Wunderlich do ones with the small spacers supplied (have to make your own with the Touratechs).

Ok folks, thanks for all that. In the absence of detachable ones, I have ordered some Motax WibblyWobbly ones (1/3 the price of the Touratech efforts) - I shall give these a go on the front.
Just as an aside, my rear ones are mounted inboard (The Al Jesse Pannier mounting kit moves them in a bit) and have so far survived all off road tumbles. I just went through six when the baffle fell out the Remus and started melting them on a daily basis......
