It's just a bend in a road, we have lots of them in Wales

The special tests in the Cambrian Rally (15 & 16 October) will start and finish at the top, just before you start going down again :D

Bob,

"It's just a bend"!

It's just a bend named after Satan that's all it is. On a staircase, owned by the Devil.

Plus on a Welsh Bikers forum, some riders had been freaked out riding up it.

We just tell "foreigners" that story about the Devil and his Staircase so they don't come and clutter up our fantastic bikers roads :D

Next time your up there go over the top heading West and as you drop down the other side take the left turn towards Llandovery. Then take the first right turn which will take up, over and down. At the bottom there's a little turning to the left and then turn immediately right over a little bridge to the chapel at Soar-y-Mynydd, it's still in regular use, very spooky & spiritual.

If you go just pass the chapel (the tarmac is long gone) and take the turning to the left you can ride on gravel roads all the way around Llyn Brianne Reservoir and over the dam to the visitors car park (you can just get a GS through the walkers gate).

Alternatively you can ride West from Soar-y-Mynydd along the tarmac which eventually re-joins the road over to Tregaron. Here you can turn left and pop down to Llanddewi Brefi just to say you've been there :cool

Bob, I've been all over that area like a rash, I only live down the road from there.
And when I was there I was "the Only GS in Llanddewi Brefi".

Have you double jammed at the tea shop between the dam and Llandovery?
They put jam on the top half of the scone and the bottom half, then stuff extra cream in the middle. That way when you cut through the cream you get two jam and cream and scone combinations, rather than one jam and cream and scone and one just cream and scone.

But watch out for their dog, it gives you the dog eyes thing, so you end up giving it scone jam and cream which is a bad thing as there's less for you.

I saw the Welsh BIG FOOT, when I was there, like an English foot only an inch longer and taller, like a lot of the 'tales' that are told in these parts, on dark wet, cold, lonesome nights in the valleys... so that'll be every night then.

Bob, there's a track off by that oddly placed telephone box in the middle of nowhere. I see it says dead end but was thinking of taking a tootle up it. Any thoughts, experience of what's up there?

Also, at the top of the stairs, the devil's landing I assume it's called, there are the logger tracks to the right. The signs at the gate don't seem to exclude vehicles from riding down them, do you know any different? I'm not sure about the wisdom of single file dirt track with logging trucks as the only company, but they look tempting.

Steve.
When you go over the bridge/ford at the bottom of the Staircase, go through the gate on the right and this will take you up to the top of the landing. There are loads of tracks up there, not sure about the legality, but I do them sometimes, pretty simple tracks and the loggers don't do weekends I believe :augie

nice movie lamble, i like it. I've done the devils staircase a couple times, bloody scarey on my old k1200gt, mind you, it turned like a barge.

that track might be the one that goes to a yha bunkhouse, then again, probably not.:blast
