My lovely wife and I are thinking of visiting the south west of Englandshire before the end of this month. I've travelled many times around the UK, but never visited this neck of the woods. We're flying by the seat of our pants and hoping that the satnav will point us towards plenty of B&B's, but can we get some info of the 'must do/see/visit' places and things that are in the area from you guys ?

Thanks in anticipation. :thumb2

Davy,
If your'e working East to West and back again, Taunton may be a good starting point, having left the M5J25.
Look for Norton Fitzwarren, B3227 and just follow all the way to South Molton ( Johny Kingdom country ) You'll be in North Devon and I'll leave the Devonians to pick up the trail from there...
have a good trip:beerjug:

We're most likely getting off the boat at Liverpool, then zooming down towards Bristol (would like to see the SS Great Briton and Clifton Suspension bridge), so Taunton would be a good starting point. Thanks.:beerjug:

Davy, you'll be most wellcome in this part of the world, If you send me a PM I'll give you my contact No and places to visit in North Devon.

Cheers

Fancy staying on a converted barge in the middle of the river Dart? give the Res Nova a call-they even pick you up from the quayside with their boat, so you can roll in from wherever youve been and off you go. The food is really good on board too. Really recommend this place http://www.resnova.co.uk/

Davy, I can vouch for Barry, he has lead some fine rides of the Devon and Cornwall ride out fraternity just look back through the South West section history. I too would be happy to advise or lead you on the Cornish coastal and moorland lanes if you wish PM me.

bubbles.

I'm in the exeter area... always have a spare room! Only a few minutes from the moors as well so there is a cracking ride nearby. Or if you prefer spending money the nobody inn (about two miles away.. if you walk across the fields) has great food and a B&B. Just google it!

An evening out in Boscastle is rather nice - wander down through the harbour after dinner to watch the sun set works for me.

If you're feeling rich then dinner at Rick Steins place following a day out around Padstein is worth it

St Austell's good too - they have a good brewery tour there. And it's close to the Eden Project.

And dinner at The Schoolhouse in Pentewan would be a nice way to round that day off.

I like my food, me :thumb

If you are going to StAustell then have a look at Perranporth, Fistral Beach, Hollywell Bay, Poldark Mine, Eden Project, Falmouth Maritime Museum, plus the obvious Lands End, or maybe not.

Have fun,

I'm going down to the Lizard for the weekend of 18-21st. Try visiting Mount St Michael and Tintagel Castle (legend has it that is was King Arthur's), the Cornish fishing villages and beaches are picturesque beyond belief and there are loads of NT properties and gardens to visit if that interests you. Just be prepared to take things slowly as many of the back roads are very narrow and have high hedge lines. :thumb

Many thanks for the replies so far, chaps (pm's will be replied to shortly). I should point out that we're going by MX5 as SWMBO has finally given up riding pillion.
