I'm toying with either buying the KTM or a 1200GS......so, as part of due dilligence I have rang a few GS dealers to check their hourly rates...and my God, they aren't cheap. One i distinctly remember was £55 ex vat. How can this be?

Hi Fanum.

I have and so far, its cheaper; and also more fixable where there isn't a dealer as the reliance on electronics is far less.

Can I assume its accepted fayre paying those sorts of hourly rates then? It makes a car service look cheap!

Its the combination of hourly rates and the number of hours and how often a service is required which is important. Not saying the KTM isn't cheaper, it may well be but its the actual service cost per mile you need to look at.

FWIW, my 6000 mile service at NOG was £166 inc parts and VAT. Independents will be cheaper.

No we're not....we're answering a question concerning bikes and money...there's a difference.

GSA - BVM Stroud

600m service, including fitting s/h pannier rails and coding the locks on s/h panniers (neither rails nor panniers bought from BVM) - £ totally FREE

6000m service - £119 (just like having a new bike back).

Excellent service and prices, just make sure you choose the right dealer.
