Diesel Adventure bike breaks cover

Track bike looks interesting and some good vids. No footage of it gunning in an out of tighter corners though so it would be interesting for feedback from users on how it performs in this. As we all know, a major part of the fun of GS type bikes is the tighter stuff and things like engine braking are usually a good effect for this type of stuff...

it was already on it's way but a bit delayed because I was busy with other things: The Yellow Track!

Yes, it's me on my Yellow Track on the MX track of Rutten, the Netherlands. The ARM forum hired the track for the morning and I did three sessions of three laps. The speed I'm going is just what the Track can handle too. So we're a perfect match :D As you can hear I also found out what happened when I go to fast over a jump, the rear tire touches the fender. Not that strange, the Track is not made for this kind of riding, it's an ALLroad. At that it does just fine!

I'm at almost 10kkm now and still having so much fun!

For 4x4 travel across africa a lot of people favour the non turbo versions of diesel engine as they are less prone to failure. I presume that poor fuel quality and lots of dust screw upthe turbos. Has anyone tested the Track in such an environment? What would it be like without a turbo.

The engine is 800cc diesel. I owned a Smart fortwo with one in it. Even with a turbo, it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Was electronically limited to 120km/hr, but the only time I ever got it to happen was on the motorway hill down into Drogheda. Engine ok for track diesel bike though, because it is exceedingly light. Turbo is essential.

Re longevity. I cannot really comment on this. My car had only covered 165,000 when I sold it. Just about everything else gave trouble except the engine & gearbox. The only engine problem in that time was when the sump rusted through, lubricating the road. Changed sump in around 15 mins.

Was down near skipton today trying out a new Guzzi stelvio and three bikes came past in the opposite direction. 99% sure that the elad bike was one of these.

Hi,

maybe nice to show some summer holiday photo's of the Track so you can warm up at the thought of sunshine and hot water...

We thought it would be nice to visit the second biggest island in Europe: Iceland. We drove up to the north of Denmark and took the ferry. After 40 hours we arrived at the east coast of Iceland and in two weeks time we drove around the island. Some pictures of the Track on Iceland:

Road no. 910 to Askja had just been opened for traffic, still a lot of snow besides the road.

Filling up with Diesel (if they have some :eek ) Luckily I still had enough to make it to the next gas station. Since this incident I took 3 liters of spare Diesel with me but never needed it. A range of over 450 km can be quite useful :D

We never went offroad on Iceland (big penalties for offroad driving). They still call this a road, lucky guys over there...

On my way to the Askja. There was still ice on the crater lake. Only the small warm water pool Vitti was liquid. Had to walk a few km's through the snow to get there...

They don't bother making bridges as the are destroyed each spring when the snow melts. So just the fun way left to cross the rivers!

By the way temp. was between 4° and 14° but sunshine and wind made this feel like -4° up to 20°. So winter and summer all in one!

Hi FP,

I was told water in the CVT could cause the belt to slip. And so it did. It took some experiments to determine which opening in the housing was causing the critical leakage but we found it. Applying some Ducttape to this opening was all it took to get the water crossings doable.
Since the housing is quite open for cooling purposes it's always possible for some water to come in and cause some slipping. But it's reduced to an acceptable level. The picture above is at a crossing of over 15 meters wide and that went fine. A real adventure :D

If I said I didnt care about the fuel cosumption figures I'd be lying. BUT the NOISE, AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH it sounds fekkin dreadful. Maybe with time it will sound better but for now it sounds :barf:barf:barf
