Diet tips for my 1150

Be reasonable Bigtwin I'm only a 14 stone flyweight:) You can't expect a GSer to be lighter than that can you?

Last weigh in I was under 11 stone.........

It's amazing that when you ride the bike for at least 100 miles everyday in all weathers how it suddenly becomes the weight of a Honda Hornet....... Ride it, don't try to make it something it's not.

Battery, starter and generator are heavy things!
And remove 98% of the oil and fill as little petrol as possible!
Brakes are for sissies!
And only one cylinder is all you need!

:D ;) :D Liv.

Come on LIv, I only weigh 90kg how could I start the bike without a starter, quite apart from the fact that to get down the weight to only 228kg BMW junked the kickstarter:) If I need the starter I also need the generator and as the generator only works when the engine is running I also need the battery:confused: However, tell me more about getting rid of one cylinder:) Will the bike look odd and be a bit unbalanced:)

I agree with the brakes comment I hardly use them compared with most people but it won't get through the MOT without them so they have to stay. Perhaps I could fit lighter ones and fill the lines with helium instead of DOT 4 fluid. That would be much lighter. I would suggest hydrogen, even lighter, but a fire hazard in the event of an accident:rolleyes:

How much weight will I save if I take out 98% of the oil and will having less oil improve or detract from the performance?

Weight saving.

Instant way of saving 10lbs of unsightly weight...cut you head off.

228kg dry is the figure for a non adv with abs/servo. To answer your question mine's down to a little less than 200kg dry, but the extra oil and top heavy weight it's never going to feel like a 1200.

Don't remove the beak, that is the iconic part of the bike.:thumb

Unlike the moaning bitches on here I can understand your weight loss program. For long distance traveling weight can be all the difference between something that is tough but enjoyable, or downright miserable!

Christ man - I hope you've got velcro trousers or you'll blow off in a head-wind!

OK Bigtwin, I have to own up and say that I have had a minor attack of GSeritus in the past but I am fully recovered. I Tobinated the screen soon after a miserable trip to Scotland from Birmingham when the buffeting was so bad that I couldn't see straight for hours afterwards. The result is no buffeting now, I have been able to avoid buying velcro trousers and the screen actually works well enough to make it worth keeping. I have to say though that the Tobinator kit is very light:)

The thing is to all you helpful souls who have said, "..sell the bike", "...don't try and make it something its not", "....learn to ride it as it is", I love the thing:eek: I don't want a HoSuKwYa of any variety or anything so uncivilised as a chain, even with a snotoiler (brilliant description that:thumb). I don't want high tech canbus electrical wiring that can't be hacked into for accessories etc. (oops I can't believe I have just written that, I may have a recurring attach of GSeritus:eek: ) or troubleshot with just a test meter or lamp and battery.

I just want to make the bike mine and for me a bit less is definitely more in this case. If I could loose 28Kg from it that would be a 12%+ weight saving. The better response alone would be significant. Less weight means less fuel required and I could help save the planet for that slimy b.....d at No 11 D St. in the hopes that he won't come up with any more stealth taxation, (end rant). The sillier sections of the bike press wet themselves over the loss of a single kg from the latest crutch rocket:)

So, once again, who has the lightest 1150GS out there?:beerjug:

I am away for a few days r&r so happy Christmas (bo..ocks to the PC brigade) one and all and when I get back I look forward to reading all of the serious helpful intelligent contributions made by my fellow motorcyclists. I'll check in here at UKGSer as well:jes

With the size of my head DaveGS that would be nearer 10kg:D

Reading Soopy's post I just realised that I have GSeritus worse than previously realised as I've also fitted HID's. Damn, this is worrying, it will probably ruin my holiday:eek:

So Snoopy you have achieved my target weight with your own bike, was your previous list the total?

No, the airbox system is going if I can confirm torque won't be greatly affected (I'm in contact with owner of that 1150 HP2 conversion on other thread).

I'm still sourcing carbon fibre extended blade for front of bike. If you remove the screen you need this to redirect air, but only non CF are available now. CoolCarbon has one and is trying to source. Also bloody expensive :( - 200kg dry is without any CF bits.

If you cut off one cylinder you can call it a Scarver:
A popular show on TV over here are testing all kinds of wehicles, and they told us the Scarver is a ''one cylindric boxer''! -Did that give an answer to your question about balancing? :P

I think BTBR got the bike for you;
nothing more then a frame, a seat and wheels - they call it pushbike... ;)

:) Liv.

Easy .... Go on a Diet and it saves £££££££££ in weight to weight ratio over carbon then get a different bike I reckon ;) ........ The GS is a tank of a bike whatever you do to it I reckon thats why I like it!

Hi Snoopy, any chance of the 1150 HP2 conversion link?:thumb

But what a brilliant tank!! Maybe a bit more "brillianter" with a little less weight:D

What exactly are you trying to achieve Packer? Is it better performance you're after or do you just want the bike to be easier to wheel about on the driveway? :)

A bit more sparkle to the performance, a bit more agility perhaps.

I hadn't thouhgt about making it easier to wheel around as that's not a problem anyway. Besides it's about the only exercise I get:mmmm May be I could sort that as well.
