I recently bought a navigator 5 new and it only came with mapping for NZ and Australia. I have a copy of 2016 garmin CN mapping for Europe and the UK, but I don't have the digital elevations map in order to see 3d mapping. Can anyone suggest where I can get a copy from?

Cheers Gaz

From what I gather, the DEM is only available on much older versions of Garmin devices, such as the 3790's.

The quality of the terrain is compromised as you have to zoom out so far, the map becomes worthless. Very pretty, but worthless.

If you've seen the "Pro" version of BMW in-car sat nav, you'll get an idea of how basic the view is. Nothing exciting for what was a £2,000 option...

If you want proper, useful terrain heights - you could download contour line overlays from opensourcemaps, and overlay them onto their base mapping. Complicated, though :Aurelius

Thanks for the reply, but i think I had my maps mixed up. Apparently there is a secondary map of sorts that is loaded on the navigator 5 which produces the 3d view, that's the one I'm after.

The 3D view comes bundled for 'free' with Garmin's maps when you buy them via a licensed source.

The map loads automatically, the owner of the device then choosing whether to use it or not.
