Dear lord! So you know the answer to your question

Does one price include cabins and the other not maybe?

As with airlines, I would not book a ferry with a 3rd party. If things go tits-up or you need to make changes, things are so much easier if you book direct.
As for the price difference, yes, there is something wrong with the DF price. I would diligently check the ticket type (flexi v economy), the cabin grade, route and timings very carefully.

So I think DF is economy and brittany is standard. But apart from that I am struggling to see the difference

check the DF price is the whole price not just the "advance" with a later balance

on the Brittany website they show the total price then take a deposit with balance about 2 months before sailing, unless your travel date is imminent when they take the whole fee.

So I have looked at reviews of DF and it appears that if you require any contact with them Its email only. If you have any problems at check in ferry company just say contact your provider. Also if you want to make changes its a nightmare due to no phone number and slow response.

as I advised above - read about too many horror stories of people booking a ferry or flight with a 3rd party then struggling to get the statutory compensation if there is a delay let alone making an amendment if plans change.

when I went to Spain in Sept 2022, Brittany Ferries had a problem with Pont Aven running on 3 of 4 engines. This was fine on calm seas but it was not able to keep to the timetable in the rough weather we had. BF were great when I made a claim for the statutory compensation, paying me very quickly and giving me some vouchers to use in the restaurant on the 2023 crossing I had already booked.

They have also been very easy to get hold of in bad weather when the Cherbourg fast-cat thing was cancelled and I was able to get on the Caen ferry the same day.
