Mrs Slowdown needs a new mobile phone, as the Samsung Tocco she uses is just pants and I'm fed up with picking up the pieces(figuratively, although soon to be literally ). Mainly 'cos I can't get it to reliably sync with Outlook over bluetooth.:mad:

It's either the phone or the phone software as my Nokia 6300 and Nokias sync software works perfectly - I walk in the room and if the PC is on it just syncs with no human intervention. Simples - so I know it's possible.

I'd get her a Nokia 6300, but she can't use it as everything's just 'too small and fiddly' (Mrs Slowdown has MS and fine motor control is a big issue)

Now I heard that Blackberry's have an adjustable font size, so you can make everything 'big' on screen, but getting a demonstration of this in a phone store seems beyond even the best sales people - they just don't understand 'one handed operation' means using the phone with one hand, not holding it in one hand and using it with the other.

The same goes for the iPhone - its rounded back makes it impossible to use one handed and OSX has serious problems regarding disabled access(screen fonts are too small and can't be made larger). And I don't know how well iPhones sync with PC's(bluetooth and Outlook) either - Apple seem reluctant to offer up an opinion ;)

Now there's 'disabled friendly' phones on the market, but as they're niche, I can't find one with bluetooth, let alone sync software.

So, can people say if their phone/sync software is 'perfect' should you type a contact or appointment in either the computer or phone and have it 'appear' automagically on the other device.

And can people offer up phone types that have large, easy to use fonts/access systems that also sync seamlessly with PC's (Windows).

'Cos the Carphone Warehouse, Orange, Phones4U and all the others I've tried just can't.

I've got a Blackberry and yes, you can make the fonts pretty big.

However, the keys are quite fiddly.

I haven't tried syncing with Outlook but accessing different email accounts works really well.

I also have a BlackBerry. A feature I regularly use is:

  • Press one button on side of device
  • Say: "Call Ethel Crunchbucket"
  • and the BlackBerry makes the phone call

Voice activation - simples

I've got a couple of friends who are journalists in the mobile phone world and could ask them for some advice for you. Can you let me know a bit more about the particular disability: Is button size important, can she only use one hand, other than phone use does she need any other facilities from the phone in particular?

If I give them that they'll be able to get a good idea of what's needed and ask all their contacts for advise.

Justin.

I have Nokia E71, a bit like a blackberry but bluetooth sync to outlook is a doddle. I got a blackberry as a prezzie, tried to love it but it wasted 2 weeks for me trying to solve the lbuetooth synch. Can do the data with a bit of messing but not photos.
E71 and new E72 do it for me. Great voice dialling, although I have never heard of Ethel Crunchbucket.

I've got voice calling on my Nokia

unfortunatley I've used up all the combinations of call "that wanker!" I can think of....

:blast

iphone has voice command for lots of the functions including reading back txt i think worth looking on apple site though
