really dissapointed with the tp box bmw rerally tight squeeze to get my full face helmet into it the lid just about closed i will think twice about buying the bmw side panniers now

My Arai fits in fine as well, also Tour X. Been through some severe weather over the nine months and no leaks on my top box or panniers.

On a recent trip to Garmisch every 1200 owner within our group had taken the precaution of using a ratchet/tie down strap around the top box to prevent it falling off:eek: are they really that prone to falling off:confused:

buy a Givi, it's a lot cheaper and depending on which size you pick it will fit 1 or 2 helmets. However the 40 ltr top box expanded fits my XXL helmet, did you turn your helmet on its side?

Shoei Raid - tight fit

My Shoei Raid is a blinkin tight fit as well - if I carry much else in the top box I struggle to get the helmet in and the lid shut... I end up putting the stuff in the top box into my helmet and then the helmet into the top box - it works but is a pain in the arse (and if I am not careful could damage the inside of the helmet or scratch the visor).

The helmet fits in the RH side pannier though (once expanded)...

I was of the same opinion about the box. Especially after having a 52l Givi box on my last bike (i.e. two full face lids no problem).

With hindsight, I should have kept the Givi. Getting 'used' to it now though.

i had a givi too sorry i did not keep it i will try the helmet on its side

Marks Adventure - the box should be waterproof without any additional seals etc - have a word with your local dealer about it :)

If so many people are disappointed with these BMW top boxes does anyone want to sell their's to me?

The other problem with the box is that if you fit the padded backrest it causes severe bruising - ask my wife. We did 350 miles yesterday round trip to the Peak District and she got back with a badly bruised back! The pad is very hard and is V shaped which I think is the problem - and it costs a fortune!

Hoping to get Mervin Hunter to re-shape but haven't had chance to go and see him yet.

Call me Big headed.....

Call me big headed, but i reckon i went for the best hard luggage combination...

BMW Panniers, which to date have been faultless, plenty of space, waterproof, excellent... combined with a Givi E52 Top box, again acres of space, easily fits 2 full face helmets, great backrest for pillion. Most importantly, no issues with it falling off!!!

and i got to save on the squids to boot.... can't be bad :D

Great combination, i'd recommend it to anyone....

-HTH.....

£2.50 worth of cushion foam from the local market, covered in a thick black rubbish bag, nicely finished off with insulation tape, with some sticky back velcro to hold it on :D

Allroad,
I've just read your reply to my request to buy disgruntled people's topbox (been out of email contact), but I can't pm you as you're not in "the stsem". How old is your topbox, what condition's it in and how much do you want for it?
