Would any of the SS be able to give me the details of a distillery worth visiting near Stirling?

50 odd of us will be at a loose end on Saturday 29th May - we have a coach at our disposal so a few miles away from Stirling would not be a problem.

I did the Famous Grouse Experience last weekend near Crieff - great day of sampling Glenturret/Macallan/Highland Park/Grey Grouse/Snow Grouse etc :jager

Thanks in anticipation

There is the Auchentoshan distillery which is just North of Glasgow. It's owned by Morrison Bowmore distillers and has a new visitors centre.

It's a lowland distillery with characteristic smooth flavours. I particularly like the 'Three Wood', it's like liquid christmas pudding :jager

Mutley,
Thanks for that:clap, I've had a nip of Three Wood in the past:drool

Nearer to Stirling than Auchentoshan is Glengoyne. Go directly west out of Stirling on A811 until Ballat crossroads. Turn left signed for Glasgow and distillery is on the left side, carpark opposite. A couple of miles after Ballat.

I'm not terrribly clued up on these things....:o, maybe this site's information is still relevant...:)

Gents,
Your help is much appreciated:thumb2

Any more suggestions?

Edradour isnt too far from Stirling.
We had a wee run out there last year, nice wee tour and a very decent dram.

Bite to eat in the Moulin pub down the road and a pint of their own micro beer is also highly recommended. :thumb2

There are a number of distilleries a short ride or drive from Stirling.

In addition to the ones alreaady mentioned there are some which have large vsitor centres. Most distilleries have web sites. Here are few for you to look at;

http://www.thefamousgrouse.com/ls/en/ this is for Famous Grouse and Glenturret Distillery near Creiff. There they have the Grouse Grouse Experience.

http://www.dewarswow.com/home/default.aspx This is Dewars World of Whisky at the Aberfeldy Distillery between Aberfeldy the A9. You would pass it on your way to Edradour.

You would also pass;

http://www.bells.co.uk/Discovery/ This is Arthur Bells distillery in Pitlochry (rather than Blair Athol).

With these in addition to the others that people have suggested you should be able to find a dram and visit a working distillery.

Best of Luck

Famous Grouse at Glenturret is still probably your best bet, even if you have been there already. They have just spent a fortune on doing up the visitor centre, and the black grouse is very tasty!

Tullibardine and Deanston are the closest to Stirling but Deanston doesn't have a visitor centre.

Auchentoshan is probably at least a one hour drive from Stirling as it is also west of Glasgow on the Dumbarton road.

Glengoyne is another possibility; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl more info here http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jhb/whisky/maps/scotland.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jhb/whisky/scotland.html&h=900&w=592&sz=22&tbnid=SyfYvdRh4XSnjM:&tbnh=146&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddistillery%2Bmap&hl=en&usg=__BhREpWebRRVowdTiG0QzpABNIZg=&ei=bJ_eS5fQCp_00gS6rsi-Bw&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image&ved=0CBQQ9QEwAw and has a visitor centre. Lovely countryside as well. About 45 minutes from Stirling by coach.

If you do decide to go up to Edradour via the A9 - you go past the Dalwhinnie distillery at Drumochter Pass.

Gents,
Many thanks for all your guidance and suggestions - I'll put all the details on a list and let someone else make the final decision:aidan

I think attempting two distillery tours in one day may be a hoot:cool:

I may be barred:eek
