DIY earplugs

The protection value of them isn't great and I'd worry about getting ear infections as I can't see how you'd keep them clean.

Personally, I buy a box of these every year or so - the last lot were £30 from somewhere like Screwfix

My thinking is that if you're going to bother with ear protection you may as well do it properly.

I've been using them just to see how I got on with molded plugs before spending a fortune on some,

they're not bad at first but mine seem to have shrunk over time and no longer fit as well as they did and so don't block as much noise.

still it proved to me that I like the idea and a proper set is on my christmas list.

Believe it or not, your ears continue to grow as you age so it may well be something to with that.....however, not knowing the product or the material they use, it may also be something to do with that too... :nenau

In any event, DIY ear plugs are always going to be dependant on how good you are at stickin it in yer ear...;).... Be careful out there in any event, it's not something to mess with lightly .....:thumb

There's a very good reason why responsible pluggers of ears look in customers ears before we put anything in them and have training and qualifications in Otoscopy and impression taking - around 20% of our customers (based on tens of thousands) cannot be done without medical intervention as it would be unsafe to do so.

As Coolcarbon says you really don't want to mess this up :yikes

Good luck....

But there are people who will set about dental work with a leatherman and a bottle of vodka - go figure, Darwin ain't finished here yet.

I bought that stuff and made my plugs up. Fect wonderful for the first thirty seconds and then I twitched at which point the plugs unseated them selves ever so slightly. That was enough to let in all the noise again, and despite trying them several times they always did the same.

If you can ride without changing your facial expression or talking then they might work for you...

+ 1 They seemed great while they were curing in my ears, but never fitted as well or blocked much noise afterwards. However, they're easily washable so no more danger of ear infections than any other ear plug.

Nice way to er....wax your ears then:D:D:D
Or perhaps you are still a young gun yet to have hairy ears:blast
Nice idea.

Cheese works nicely.
And when you stop for lunch, you just spread it on your crackers and replace with fresh :thumb2

I use my fingers. One in each ear.

I tried that. It's a bugger getting your helmet on over your hands the first time you try.

In cold weather I had to find some way to get the heated grips under there too or my hands got really cold (because I'd look really stupid with my fingers in my ears when I was wearing gloves).

I get custom ear plugs from proper ear person called Vladimir (dont know what they are called !) here in Serbia for €25. If you have the mold already or and old set he can make a new set for €20.
PP is about a fiver each way.

i have these for over a year now

good set but as said alreay ears change size so they now dont fit as well as before

but i suffer from ear problems and have very narrow ears so normal foam plugs dont work with me

found these great but i would like see if could get them done by pro next time and have the small pressure relief vents put in to them to stop pressure building up inside ear

wornt hem a lot and as they are wasable they will stay clean
