DIY fit - TKC80: Valve location?

OK - doing my first diy tyre fit. Got some wheels + TKC80's.

Now I cannot see the mark that identifies the part of the tyre that should be by the valve (the mark shows the lightest part of tyre, or is it the heaviest part, cant remember).

Anyway, do these tyres have a mark or do they go on anyway (apart from direction of course)

I'm not so sure if all tyres have them. I couldn't find any when I fitted a pair of Conti's to my wife's bike, but the Tourance I fitted to my GS did have one.
 
Nothing mentioned in the conti tech manual about this.

Well tyres on, directionally aligned but thats it.

Thought i'd try them out before thinking about getting them balanced.

Having done a couple of hundred miles with them not balanced and "spirited" riding, no vibration and as far as I can tell, absolutely no need to get them balanced.

A sod to get old tyres off & fit new ones, but deffo a technique. Loads of lube. Next time will be easier for sure.

Also a knack to getting seal to get air in so can inflate / seat them. Careful use of a ratchet strap around the cicumference - not too tight.

That BeadBrakr & CyclePump (avail from MetalMule in UK) really do work well. [No connection]

Good learning experience.

According to Cambrian Tyres ( Conti Importer):
"fit the tyres with the balance mark opposite the heaviest point on the wheel. If the tyres don't have a balance mark (none of the TKC80s we have in stock do) then you will have to try moving the tyre on the rim to get the optimum balance."

They take a lot fiddling about to get right, TKCs can be off balabnce by a lot.

In Zaragoza last year I had to have a new front fitted. At the tyre fitters they laughed at the 90g of balance weights I had on the rim before removing them. Then they spent an hour removing and refitting the tyre in different positions to get their balance machine to indicate less than 120g needed for the new tyre!
We ended up with 75g, and humbled tyre fitters - I speak enough Spanish not to let that pass :rolleyes:
