Do I keep it stock or change colour?

I'm balls deep in a strip down and rebuild of an r80/7 1979 , it's currently a dull light blue colour. If I change the colour am I shooting myself in the foot for any future resale value?? I've seen one in a light metallic green colour ( non bmw) and looked nice - so what's my foreseeable issues if I a) keep it stock b) another BMW colour of the era or c) a nice colour

Any views welcome cheers

That's a great colour. I wouldn't worry too much about changing the colour as long as you stick to something that looks of the the era.

One of my favourite colours is the silver/5. Works well on the /5 but you put it on a /7 and it just looks wrong. It's worth taking some time to get it right.. I'd go with the green if it were me.

That definitely needs to change. It looks like it's got a broken back - probably just the short exhaust.

I know less than half of fuck all about these or their resale value, but that colour looks great on it, and as the esteemed Mr Farmer says, dead in keeping with the era

(having the up to date paint code in your notes on it would probably help though, so it can be passed on/touched up at any point by any future owner)

I LOVE Green on a motorcycle , there are some amazing greens out there ..
My favourite at the minute is a volkswagon variant of Green
I like it so much i paint my pride and joy

It's my bike so only me to please - I was just trying to protect my investment - didn't want to spend my money on it to find that it wouldn't be as valuable when I came to sell it. The images don't work on my phone but will look at the vw green on laptop later

My motorcycles are for me , when i was working , i had to Pander to Every one elses whim / whims !......
Now , Its ME .
Value is another thing altogether , But i think if its done properly it will not affect the value of anything.

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works, but............green is an unlucky colour for motorcycle.

That Aston colour isn't green though, it is more of a tinted silver. I think it looks great and a well applied paint job, even a non-standard colour provided it is a tasteful one, will only serve to increase the value, not be a detriment. I am in the same boat with my GS1150 - it is a metallic grey/silvery colour (gunmetal?) but I like that dark metallic green that Triumph use, similar to the GS800 matted green. I think it would suit old "Nellie" down to the ground and make her stand out - or rather blend in - to the countryside. That Aston green will lift the lines of your old /6 and somehow I think it will make it look far more stately than the garish blue she is wearing now. Very 70s pop art!

now that tank looks first class if you have the dosch I would go for that looks moor original than just one coulor

If it helps, I prefer the green to the two-tone. Not that I have any taste.
