Everywhere and nowhere baby!
Recently bought a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Si2636 laptop and would like to "dock" it and use external monitor and keyboard.

I can't seem to find one and I'm pretty sure it can't "dock" as there don't appear to be any ports for this to connect to.

Have I bought the worlds only laptop that is not able to dock??:blast

Skip.

Yes but....

I suspect you might need something along these lines....

....saw these but I can't work out how it works. Is it just a USB hub ?? ie I plug my peripherals into the back of it using the various types of connector and a single USB from the front to my laptop??

I have a very nice 19" monitor that is now completely u/s as the only connection types on this AMILO are USB! There are no other ports from what I can see. There are two ports on one side,an HDMI ??? and a ESATA/USB???. The latter I know takes a USB but what's an ESATA? and what's an HDMI (High Def Media Input?????????:o). There are two USB's on the other side.

:confused::confused::confused:

that's exactly it, connect the peripherals into the docking station (normal connectors) and your laptop using a USB....we have similar at work, except you actually click the laptop onto the docking station....

Be sure to select one with a socket for your monitor...not all have them...I think the Targus may not have one...quite few and far between, actually...

I can't remeber the model I found that does have one...but I'll post it if I come across it

Have you got a USB keyboard?

ESATA is an alternative way (faster speed) of connecting an External Hard Drive - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

You'll need to check your monitor inputs but you should be able to get a HDMI to whatever (D-SUB/DVI?) cable e.g. http://www.hdinterconnects.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=265

.....missed your reply. It has got one of those ports you mention. The rest of your reply was gobledegook though!:rob

Can I have a printable shopping list please.:D

Forget ESATA for time being.

I'm assuming you don't really want/need a "docking station" i.e. you simply want to connect your Laptop to your existing external monitor and use an external keyboard and mouse?

Get a USB keyboard and a USB mouse and plug them in to two of the USB ports.

To use your external monitor you need a cable to connect it to the HDMI port.

Is the monitor a "branded" one? - does it have a digital input? (RTFM) :)

I assume the monitor hasn't got a HDMI input, so you'll need an adapter/cable with HDMI at one end and whatever the monitor needs at the other end - probably D-SUB?

When you have sorted the screen connection I would pop into Tesco and buy a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse package, you only need one USB to connect the pair. I must admit I have never seen a Laptop without a "normal" connector for attaching a screen.
