Does your's rattle?!

Does your engine rattle when cold on tickover? Sounds just tappet noise but it is a bit inconsistent. Bike only has 2500 miles on it. Guess it's normal but I thought the old brit bike noise had been designed out by now with better tolerances and modern oils?

Yes, but not all the time. The cam chain tensioners take a little while to get up to pressure sometimes. Seems to be the Left hand pot that takes a few extra seconds on mine.
 
Along with what's already been said is the obvious one of valve clearances. On a new bike they will take while settle and in spite of it only being a few miles since your first service they could be a tad wide. In addition it's surprising, to me at least, what a difference setting the rocker end-float to the minimum spec' has on valve train noise. It's not something that gets done in a dealer service as far as I'm aware but the difference between the wide and tight end of the factory spec' for this parameter makes a world of difference to the rattle, especially at tick over

Why, thanks for asking, I'm using 10w60 Castrol Edge, rattle now you bloody tractor!
