Hello all,
Myself and a mate are looking to do a trip to the Dolomites in July or august. We would hope to have a week staying in the one place rather than moving about.

Now I have been to Austria and Bavaria a few times and have done the usual (Stelvio, etc) passes from there, but this time I’d like to visit some of the magnificent passes that I see in people on other GSer's photographs from their Dolomite trips.

Can anyone recommend a particular area we should stay in, and are there “not to be missed” routes/passes I should be looking to plan when we are there?

We will hopefully be looking for mid priced accommodation, either an apartment or a hotel, rather than camping though.

Thanks in advance for any info,
BB :beerjug:

Do a search as there's plenty on the site for this area, but I'd definitely recommend around the Canezei area. Book in advance and brush up on yer Deutsch.

Corvara, Arabba or Cortina seem to be popular.

BTW from what I've read, July / August is not the time to go :(

I'm going to Cortina for two weeks, in June :)

+1 for cortina, a great area.Afraid don't know about accomodation as i was camping.

Stayed at Campitello di Fassa in 2008 at Hotel Gran Paradis
Would highly recomened it,big underground garage ,wellness area, pool, and a football table in the bar downstairs :):)
You get a tour book with plastic maps tank bag size.
You just turn right out the hotel through the main street then bang straight into the passes.
Take a look at www.motorrad-hotel.com there are part of a group of biking hotels.
Mci tours are using the Gran Paradis this year there always have a good standard.

Thanks folks

Thanks guys, that's a great starter for ten and is certainly keeping Google maps busy!

As for the www.motorrad-hotel.com, I have stayed in their hotel in Landek, Austria, owned by a guy called Klaus, it is excellent and would reccomend it to anyone looking for accomodation there. :thumb2
