Off to the Dolomites on Saturday and as with any trip, I keep looking at the weather forecast. Looking at the long range forecast for the region it says thunderstorms.

Being the paranoid sort of chap I am does this mean to say I am going to spend all week soaking wet or is it the case that it might throw it down for an hour or so and the sun comes out and dries everything up?

What are the normal weather conditions like at this time of year?

Just got back from up that way myself last week. It didn't just rain, it rained so heavy it was like a fog had descended. We were told by some locals the forecast was rain last week and this week, but clearing after that.

There 2 weeks ago and returned back through week later and it was scorching going, changeable on the way back, if it does rain the clouds blow in a cannot see a thing but over the top and it can be clear as a bell. Don't worry mountain weather very changeable, but it will still be worth it, loads of snow still about on the tops for some belting view and pics...........enjoy

I was in the Landeck, Dolomites, Grosslockner area in the last fortnight of May. Weather mostly in the low 20's, roads dry and riding fantastic as the summer crowds had not yet arrived to clutter the roads. Still quite lot of snow about but the roads were clear although some of high passes like the Timmelsjoch & Stelvio were still closed but due to open in June.

Did encounter a couple of heavy downpours but mostly shortlived affairs and quite localised. In the course of 20 miles rode though one rainstorm into bright sunshine on the other side of the mountain. Had almost dried off by the time I got back to my hotel.

It's always a bit of pot luck with the weather in the Alps. Been there in July and it rained, & there in Sept and found fresh snow on the high roads. Also had some fantastically sunny dasy fo bright blue skies & 50 mile visibility. Weather - All part of the riding fun and challenge.

Just back from there myself, anything can happen just be prepared.... waterproofs.:)

Back just over a week. Sunshine and showers, with more of the former than the latter.

Waterproofs and things that dry out quickly is what I'd recommend. Sometimes it is worthwhile just getting wet, riding through it, and drying out on the far side!

Have fun.
