I just read Millard's thread and there are similarities...

DR600 Suzook
When I try the usual thumper starting routine (ie sucking petrol into the cylinder before switching the igntion on) it fires maybe 3-4 times, then dies. It's as if it's unable to suck the fuel through - once the priming fuel is burned, that's it.
I have stripped and blown through ever passage I can see in the carb, all seem fine.
The timing's fine, it hasn't jumped.
Fuel is fresh.
No obvious leaks between the carb and cylinder.
Have tried with choke in, out and middle position.
The compression's fine, I can stand on the kickstart and it doesn't move.
I feel I'm so close to fixing this thing now that it's firing.. but it just won't catch.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful!

Double check the valve timing, it was quite common for the tensioner on the camchain to become weak on the DR600 and the chain can jump a couple of teeth. I've seen two or three which have done it, on two there was no further damage and resetting the timing and a new tensioner fixed them.
