I like my off-roading and having recently bought a GS, having swapped over from an XRV650, I have checked out the air intake and the airbox and have some concerns. My concern is there seems to be no one way drain valve, and the air intake positively encourages water ingress due to its forward facing position. Has anyone made any mod's to solve these two issues before I start inventing?

My brother looked into this with his 1200GS - nothing really came of it, however you will find a few threads in this forum if you search for the word 'snorkel'

Of greater concern is the crankcase breather which goes into the airbox on the front LHS. Its right at the bottom of the box with only a small raised section stopping water in the air box going into the sump. I'm considering raising it at some point but it will mean removing the airbox as its impossible to get at in-situ. This probably means taking half the bike apart.....

Fitting a snorkel on a 1200GSA is a bit of a pain...... try getting a secondhand intake from Motorworks etc. and cutting it down to allow the snorkel. The 1150GSA is easily done.

If you stall in water, push the bike out, remove the top spark plugs & crank the engine over. Reassemble. Make sure someone is standing behind the bike, and someone else has a camera. Start the bike :green gri

If you dunk the exhaust badly, and you have enough people, roll the bike vertical on the back wheel.

Boxers cope with flooding very well, and as long as you make sure that you empty the cylinder heads before starting the bike, it'll normally be fine. :thumb
