Made up my mind to get myself a drz 400:augie. Just looking for a little bit of advice:confused:

I have found a couple of drz s models. One a 2004 and the other a 2003. The price of each is about the same and compares with what i have seen elsewhere. The 2003 is the cleaner of the two and has done less mileage and at a guess less off road work.

Are there any differences between the two models besides the exhaust changed on the 2004 for a quieter one i believe?

The 2003 has a set of trailwings tyres on. Whats the best option for one road/off road?.

Any other little things i should look for that may be obvious to drz owners but less so to potential ones?. Because it is an s model will i have to do a lot of mods before going off road?.

Any advice would be much appreciated.:thumb

1. Both models identical, get the 2003 for less worry. Exhausts the same just end tips may be different.
2. Trailwings are utter shite in mud, trust me. They are superb for stone trailies but keep well away from mud. Surprisingly good on road. It's all a compromise - many buy two sets of wheels.
3. Put some decent tyres on and it's ready for mud.

Essential mods: stainless steel output shaft spacer (ebay). Renthal 664 or similar bars (stock bend easily). That's it. :thumb2

Decent Sump guard/ bashplate (certainly saved me a lot of money)
Case savers (from ebay) to protect engine cases (stuck on with silicon)
There's a good thread (prob in DR section now) includes such tips as filng off the sharp inside edge of either the gear lever or brake pedal -sorry can't remember which.
