It's loaded - I'm really chuffed.

I can tell how well a bike has been looked after by the amount of stainless bolts on it. ;)

you got a good un snoopy :thumb2

Don't go fecking it up tho :rob

The 650's have a lot of s/s bolts as standard, looking at the pic my dakar looks the same :eek, if micky hasn't done it the only bolts i replaced that weren't stainless were the ones holding the switchgear on, drop me a line if you need some, i'll 'borrow' them from work

A hid in the low beam on that headlight works really well too :augie

Well done snoops, I have an older 650. Actually sold the 1150 because of how good it is on the twisty stuff and far lighter off road.

Front end is the only weak point for me, I have a KTM front end to go in when I get around to it :blast:blast:blast

Good luck with it, ride it and don't feck around with it :thumb

Well said Flipfly... buy you a drink on that one :thumb

Rc mad ... John, didya buy yours new? None of the bolts on mine wuz stainless... renewed 'em as I went along

Snoopy ... I bet it handled like the Cutty Sark in a gale force 10 freshening to Cyclone on your way home

John A ... I hope so too :thumb

:beerjug:

yup, bought mine new, most of the bolts in stainless. Mind it had been stored outside for a few months before i bought it in may 06, dealer might have replaced em

One of life's little mystery's i suppose :D

I couldn't feel my hands when I got home and got pretty soaked (Goretex has failed near crotch ). Couldn't get in the house because my keys were inside the coat inside the pannier, which I couldn't work out how was locked (was looking at the side lock not the top lock - doh!)

Lovely and stable despite the load :augie, I really like it. I rate the suspension - bet it's crap off road but on it it's a dream.

Oh and I need a higher screen. I think BMW do a taller one?

Snoops has it got heated grips?? I rode back from Cornwall on mine on NewYears eve and my hands were fine and I haven't got the extenders on mine :nenau Grips have 2 heat settings and take a fair while to heat up. Funnily I found that thicker gloves make your hands colder cause the heat doesn't get through.

Soften the rear suspension for off road and you might be suprised. Front is poo cause there is no adjustment.

I agree with the screen comment, the older Dakar screen like the one on mine is far better. Don't know if it can be adapted to fit the newer bike though.

Yeah but I was wearing thick gloves. I think the vibes were doing it, they are pretty bad on this lumpy thing. I'll get used to it...

And it's so much heavier. I love it after less than a day though. This is the bike I should have bought back in 2004.

That little old Dakar has had a love life and an adventure life most people would only dream about
She has been places any bike would be proud to go. She could tell you a few tales that would make your hair curl - it certainly made Micky's curl (and grey)
Enjoy her, she is a dream machine.
Thanks Micky for all the wonderful memories that go with you both, hope the new owner treats her well.
Here's to the future and the new GS

I'll stop teasing, I bought a 650 Dakar. It has the nicest suspension and seat set up in the world, like up with Goldwing standard.

It has lots of miles but is in good nick and importantly, has lots of bling, which has saved a fortune.

Pint needed. Thanks Forry. :kissy2

you faggot :ymca

Fit the uprated front fork springs if it hasn't had it done already, it'll transform the front...............Touratech pricey ones or the same cheaper elsewhere.

Just checked the original ad :-
"Wilbers rear suspension unit recently rebuilt at the factory WP front suspension springs. WP front suspension springs."

Should be fine :thumb

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :blush

Snoopy ... you seem to be bonding well with the Dak :)

Jon ... Yes, WP springs and oil. When riding with Gracie through the severe corrugations in the Gobi the fork stanchions were blued by the heat, the wheels a mere blurr as I rode alongside in an adjacent track... but the damping never went AWOL. Having seen what the instructors do on the 650's on the off road course in Wales I quickly came to the conclusion... this bike's better at this job than me

Came to your senses at last....

Nice to see youve come back to the GS fold.

It doesn't matter how much time and money you throw at a DR, it's still a DR!!

The seat has room for a pillion - on the DRZ you sit right up with the tank between your balls. Not sure how comfy it would be though!

Pannier is that German one Magma raves about in "Toys & Equipment" section. I'm not impressed so far - it's not waterproof without silicon, 1mm thick aluminium and worst of all are the catches which spring up at 60mph causing the lid to hit my back (sorta Porsche 911 air-brake style).

Decent bash plate - no such thing as they all reflect noise from the dry sump making travelling a very loud affair. Been there and done that. Suzuki have just brought out a water pump protection kit for 6 quid which solves the problem of needing an after market sump. :thumb2

And the stuffed rat is from Ikea. :eek

Do you have a part number for the water pump protection kit?
