Good heads up.

The workshop manual does specifically say that there should be an O-ring behind the filter.

Greg

PS It wasn't my former bike in the above story!!

Fek me thats timely I was just about to do mine for the first time in the next week or so, bought the bits at the weekend . Thanks for that Phil :clap

I just read my little handbook for the DRZ-E last night (I have a full Clymer one on order) ahead of doing some routine maintenance and it does quite clearly state that you MUST ensure you replace the rubber O ring seal for the oil filter.

The disappointment is that the service technician who sold me the parts at the weekend only sold me the filter and the 2 pressure washers for both drains, no O ring mentioned. He knew exactly which washers ( different sizes) and which filter too because he said he did an oil change on one a couple of days ago. maybe he just forgot to mention it :eek

To be fair the o ring just ensures all the oil goes through the filter so without it it just means the oil isn't getting fully filtered and a bit of dirty oil won't cause the motor to blow unless it hasn't been changed for 20k. I suspect the guy in that report (from ebay I believe) just bought a dodgy motor.

Sounds like he didn't bother running the bike or going for a test ride before he bought it....

If the knocking was as blatantly obvious as he makes out, surely this would have shown up when he viewed the bike??

Or did he service it and forget to fill it up with oil afterwards??

Just my thoughts...
