Still over 10 miles out in the North Sea.....hope none of us are waiting to get back on tonights boat from Amsterdam... Now over 2 hrs late.....luckily able to contact lodgings in Dun s Meuse. Their reply...'courage!!!'

Great...no frills, spotless, decent breakfast, nice folk, striking distance of Rotterdam and Amsterdam..5 hrs ish..

For all its place in the French psyche, Verdun itself is remarkably bereft of decent hotels. It’s good to have another on the list.

We stayed here in Verdun (https://lesjardinsdumess.fr/). It's converted from and old officers mess, apparently. Very nice, and there is an old barge converted to a bar opposite which is a nice place to have a drink.

Like most of the hotels in France at the moment the restaurant is closed to the fact they can't get the staff. Bloody Brexit even causes labour shortages in France!

But there's a nice brasserie just around the corner, so all is well!
