Has anyone got a rough estimation on the mileage they're expecting out of the stock Dunlop TR91 tyres on the Africa Twin? I'm away round Europe a couple of months after I get the bike and I'm wondering if I should budget for a tyre?

I get about 6k out of a rear. No doubt the front would do double but I tend to change them together because I find the fronts don't turn in as well much after 8,000 miles. One of the best tyres I've used on an adventure bike mind you.:thumb

Honda fitted Trailmax to the NC750x. mine and a lot of other folk wore them out in less than 2k. It was such an issue that Honda replaced them all under warranty. If yours wear quickly flag it up as an issue with your dealer and mention the 750x tyre issue. if it looks like an issue before you go away I'm sure they will swap them before you go. I went to Vertu Honda and they were very good about sorting it out despite me not buying the bike from them.

Phil Dix at Honda was the unfortunate chap dealing with the tyre complaints so you could go direct to him if your dealer isn't playing ball [email protected]

I had three sets of Trailmax tyres on my 1200 GSA but I see that Dunlop has now changed the tyre to one called the TrailSmart. It is definitely the Trailmax you are planning to use?

Thanks for that Rob. Do you think it was just that run of tyres? Andy got 6k out of his.

If you google "nc750x tyre wear" I'm sure you will see the scale of the problem worldwide. To be honest I would imagine Honda would have learnt their lesson after that issue. If you do notice heavy tyre wear don't think you just have to put up with it. Honda were very good when it came to replacing the tyres. Vertu in Nottingham were excellent as well.

I'd heard the "bad batch" rumour but the bikes were still having the same heavy wear rate over 12 months later so it must have been a hell of a batch. Some mention of it here http://nc700-forum.com/forum/nc750-technical/7802-dunlop-tyres-honda-warranty-replacement.html

Stop the press!!

Ignore the drivel I posted earlier. The nc had a trailmax d607 not the trailmax tr91 fitted to the AT.

Sorry to post bollox yodagoat. I hope I haven't led you astray.

I didn't realise there were types of trailmax :nenau

I love the TR91 and the latest replacement, the Trailsmarts. I have these on my GSA. The tr91 has a very good reputation for handling, stability and wet weather....and stays good for about 5k miles depending on riding style before getting squared off. The trailsmart is supposed to have all the same attributes but last longer. Only had them on my GSA for 3k so far and can confirm they have lost none of the great handling attributes but obviously can't attest to longevity.
