Diolch - thanks
Eh?

Peint o gwrw, os gwelwch yn dda.
All that for a beer?
And how does it sounds like?
Oh, this is going to be a little harder then I was hoping for...

:) Liv.

It all depends on what you want to say and how polite you want to be:

Beer - cwrw
Beer please - cwrw os gwelwch yn dda
Beer please (bad Welsh) - cwrw plîs
Pint of beer - peint o gwrw
Pint of beer please - peint o gwrw os gwelwch yn dda
Pint of beer please (bad Welsh) - peint o gwrw plîs
Beer, now, bitch - cwrw, rŵan/nawr, ast

Thanks/thank-you - diolch
Thanks/thank-you very much - diolch yn fawr

Choose which one you'd like then I'll give you the English phonetics so that you can say them properly.

You may find http://www.clwbmalucachu.co.uk/cheatsheets.htm useful too.

Shouldn't be. You're not aiming to become fluent, so just pick a handful of useful phrases and keep it at that.

I reckon you could easily learn them off by heart within 20 minutes. :thumb

Cwrw os gwelwch yn dda; I think I better try this first.
If I want to have two beers, is that something simular? Knut might want one too...

And I am so glad you are helping me! I really need some help!
I know I can just speak english, but the Welsh lanuage are so special.

Diolch!

:) Liv.

This is the type of attitude that will get you far and appreciated here in the Welsh speaking areas of Wales :thumb

Cwrw os gwelwch yn dda; I think I better try this first.
Phonetics in English:
Coo-roo os g-wel-w-ch un dda

Note: ch and dd are single characters in our alphabet and thus have different sounds. http://www.clwbmalucachu.co.uk/cheat/cheat_alphabet.htm gives the following help on pronounciation:

ch - like the ch in the Scottish word ‘loch’, but with more phlegm
dd - a buzzy ‘th’ sound, as in ‘this’. Think angry bees with a lisp

If I want to have two beers, is that something simular? Knut might want one too...
Prepend the sentence with a number - see http://www.clwbmalucachu.co.uk/cheat/cheat_numerals.htm however there will be some mutations involved but you will be forgiven for not using them as they're fairly confusing/complex even to a fluent speaker like myself.

Pob lwc!

-Can I call you? :eek I'm struggling, I'm trying!

I have read much of the sheats in your links, but I didn't find ''Pob Iwc'' - I was hoping it means ''good luck'', but I have no idèa.
This
http://www.snowdonia-wales.net/lang/default.asp has only a few words, but it helps for learning basic sounds, like w.

I was laughing when I read this:
''improving pronunciation
Of course, it’s all well and good to have the alphabet down pat, but sometimes you will find that your attempt at pronunciation is a little wide of the mark, no matter how hard you try. The only real way to start sounding more fluent is to mimic those around you, or to download some sound files (there are several on the audio page) and play them over and over and just mimic the noises. Listen hard, then make the noises yourself and repeat ad nauseam. And if you do actually reach nauseam, listen hard to the sound you make as you’re talking on the great white telephone, and you’ll find you’re making that exact Gog ‘u’…''
So if you hear someone talking to the great white phone at a bar, that'll be me practising! ;)

Coo-roo os g-wel-w-ch un dda
-Can I ask you two more questions?
''Motorbike'' and ''Norwegian/from Norway'' -what's that in Welsh?

Diolch yn fawr!
-Are you coming to Hogroast? I'll be there!

:) Liv.

Yes, it means good luck :)

Here's a good resource:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/wales/learnwelsh/welsh_dictionary.pl

Type in beer and it will come up with cwrw and the option to hear it.

-Can I ask you two more questions?
''Motorbike'' and ''Norwegian/from Norway'' -what's that in Welsh?

Motorbike - motorbeic (phonetic: motor bake)
Norwegian from Norway - Norwyeg o Norwy (phonetic: nor-wi-egg or nor-wi)

Another good resource is http://www.geiriadur.net

Are you coming to Hogroast? I'll be there!
No as it will mean crossing the border into enemy territory! It would be nice to meet up with you when you're here so that you could give me some top-tips ready for our visit to Norway next year and some useful phrases.

When and how long will you be in Cymru (Wales)?

Diolch! :bounce1
I'm going to dream about Cymraeg at night!

My boyfriend Knut and I are going to ride from Andover to Dolgellau Thuesday 11th of July, and ride from Dolgellau to Matlock Friday 14th.
Wednesday or Thursday we hope for good weather and to ride and see all what thourists from Norway needs to see, and, wery important; to ride funny roads!
-Perhaps Timolgra are going to show us his secret & and fun places?
He is not a native, but I'm sure he has been riding a lot in the area!
And we met in Sweden last year, in rain. We are hoping he are not going to lead out us out in deep water, fords... We'll better treat him nice, I guess! ;)

So you are coming to Norway next summer? Great! :clap
I hope we can meet somewhere not too far from Oslo!
As I don't know if we are going to meet in Cymru (I hope we can, but I don't know if we do) I think you can start reading my thread in the Travel Section, named ''Norway Norway Norway'', and then ask me if you want to know more - it's hard to write in five minutes all I want you to know about Norway!
But said on a few words:
-Don't ride from Kristiansand to Nordkapp and back in one week! To ride those funny roads takes some time - you can't ride fast all the time, and there are ferries.
-If you got one week in Norway; stay in the south west, do not ride further north then Trondheim - there are so many things you are going to love in a small area in the south west! Lofoten is great, but then you need some time...
-Sweden is not simular to Norway; Sweden do not have so many fjords, funny roads and high mountains - buy a good topographic map, 1: 300 000/1:400 000 from Cappelen, and see what I mean!
J. W. Cappelens Forlag, Oslo.
-And many of us native are travelling in Norway in July; the schools holiday is from last week in June to first week in August.

Cheers!
Liv, a Norwyeg.

That's great! It's good to know I'm not going to be thirsty next weekend!
If you are not where your quiet (good girl! :thumb ) bike are, then I'll recognise you when you do some bellydancing! -Do I need to give Knut four pairs of dark sunglasses, or are you wearing more clothes than I was wearing some months ago? :P ...outside, you know... ;)

Cheers!
Liv.

Although from the North, I now live in South Wales. If you want me to plan you a GPS route through the area then give me a shout.

Knut and I have one thing (or five) in common;
-we don't now how to use a GPS!
-It's a good thing we don't have one, then! ;)

I bought some maps the other day, and Taff has sendt me a map I can make notes from. But thank you!
If there is a place/route you want me to know, then just write the name of places near by, and the numbers for the roads. My map is 1:250 000, showing Cymru and West Midlands.
To tell you how good it is:
Between Llyn Tegid and Corwen I can see A494 (green), B4401 (brown/orange), and a road between those with no number (white). -Do you think those white roads with no number got tarmac or is hard, and have no fords where I have to take a bath?
I guess the B-roads with numbers, brown/orange on my map, is safe for us.
:) Liv.

True in most cases. Some roads without numbers are worth while too.
