Hi all, I'm looking to buy a 650 Dakar, are the later ones (twin spark) any better/worse than the earlier single sparkers? Any other major differences between them?
Ta.
Andy

Not Major differences, but enough to persuade me to sell my Y reg GS to buy a Twin Spark model three years ago.

The Twin Spark is mainly to give a leaner burn engine for emmisions control, but it makes for smoothe running & better fuel economy too.

The headlight is better, because it has a clear lense & a better reflector.

There is a remote positive connector for jump starting (check the battery location :blast).

Not sure about the Dakar, but the GS came as standard with an aux power socket.

The rear light & the locking tail cubby hole are strengthened (known weak point on originals, see TT catalogue). The rear is already a useable rack when the original ones needed a rack added.

All small changes, but enough to make a difference. Main thing missing from the Dakar is a centre stand.

But the earlier Dakars had the better paint jobs

I have an early single spark Dak. Love it!!!! Front end is the weakest part for off road but it's capable, works on road and off road, it's reliable.

It does cut out from time to time when cold, surges a bit but not as bad as the 1150 and it returns 45-50 mpg (but I'm fat and ride it fairly hard).

Mines captain America too, best colour :thumb

As the man says....:thumb

Buy the later bike and give it a paint job... not a lot to paint ;)

Before and after..... new and now....

Looks nice Micky, how much did that cost (the mods) ?
Andy.

Dunno Andy, not really... bit by bit over the years.

Wunderlich came up with quite a bit of stuff for our Long Way Home trip in 2005. Lots of our piccies in the F650GS part of their latest catalogue

Got to go back and see them in April... planning well on for our 'Cape to Cape' next year. Nord Kapp (Arctic circle) to the South Cape SA

:beerjug:

Probably do that on the F800GS though :thumb
