Our Trips at Easter and Mayday Weekend were inspired by Ray Mears.
Due to the economic climate and the price of food we have had to supplement our diet with wild (and not so wild) animals and birds. Oh and roadkill when it smells fresh.
Day 1 Run to Cauldwell Mill.
The rouse was to pick up flour
but Julie had her Rukka Poachers jacket on,she is actually a size 8.
Whats on the menu, ducks lambs, mmmmm ewes milk and we can make cheese.
Noticed some flowers
Following the bees to see if they had any honey , royal jelly and wax. Helmet and gloves on and a big stick. You are looking good Julie don’t upset them anymore. Ruuuunnnnnnnning now.
Washed our spare gear in the mill race, also soothed Julies stings a bit.
Our journey took us along trails less travelled leaving no sign of our passing. The Peak District has so many honey pots , sorry Julie I mean food possibilities. Chatsworth Deer and Lamb.
Ashford in The Water,
ooooooh ducks , mmmmmmm ducklings.
Rainbow trout and brown ones too.
Julie Julie I think that’s a goosander, maybe we can train it to catch us fish.
Water Baliff s coming we pretend to read notice boards and Riverside Menu.
Off we go to regroup at Flagg Tearooms. Over coffee its Oh Sh*t its Parky hes only gone and followed us. “Hide”!!!!!
He didn’t see us lets get back to our well hidden tarp and bivvy. Theres a feast tonight.
Day 2 Goyt Valley
Not many animals around today . We have caches around the Peak and theres always Julies Rukka Poachers Jacket. She is ace with small smooth pebbles and a bra strap, just saying that when I was a younger man may have given me a ************ stop that. Will have to look up Rays how to build a cold shower and also what leaves and roots we can eat in April ,May.
We need veggies.
We look for fish at Wildboarclough and run down Hollingsclough Rake to the B5053
Harumphing our way to Tideswell
For salad at The Vanilla Kitchen for some greens. I offer to wash up to pay the bill and also open Julies coat to show her wares.. oooooooh errrrrrrrr missus. Theres a rabbit, 2 hares ,a lamb, a deer haunch , a brace of pheasants and an oilskin pouch with 2 fine rainbow trout. Will have to hose her down later. We get lots of funny looks I tell Julie “its because you whiff a bit” ! and we rode in on BMdubberW `s . We see Parky ride past . After much consideration we decide to do one and leave the Peak District for pastures new.
Day 3
We pack up our hideout and split for North Yorkshire. Wont say where we at as the fishings real good and the lamb is good. My Bushcraft is honed and even the bikes are camouflaged . We met up with 2 good ole boys on the run.
Remember You aint seen us right.
