During the summer I ordered a set of engine bars over the internet from Paul (Caveman) who runs EIBC.

When confirming my order on screen I received an error message so tried again, the same thing happened.

The next couple of days I tried phoning/emailing EIBC to explain what had happend but with no response so I contacted N Norman and got my engine bars from him two days later :thumb

Over a month later a set of engine bars arrived, no invoice/reciept and no indication as to who had sent them.
I again tried contacting Paul and eventually managed to get hold of him by phone.

To his credit, he was very understanding about what had happened and agreed to refund the total cost of the bars if I returned them to him. This I duly did.

That was over two months ago. All numbers I have for him and on his web site are unobtainable, he has not replied to any emails nor a good old fashioned letter I sent him.

I am now £130 out of pocket (plus the postage cost of returning the engine bars).

Thought I'd post the above to warn other ukGSer's about dealing with EIBC and who knows, should Paul read this he may wish to respond :nenau

i'll pm you his home address if i can find it should have it in my gps this may take a day or two as someone has borrowed it till friday. i used to see him regularly i know he sold the business as a going concern and has started a new job but, ive tried contacting him a few times as well.

I don't know how much help this will be as it sounds as if the original transaction was some time ago, but do you have a record of any of this, proof of postage, correspondance etc, if you have, have you tried contacting your credit card company? You will need to jump through a few hoops to prove your case, but generally the are more in favour of the customer than the shop keeper.

Give them a shout and see what they say.

Thanks guys :thumb

Stubbs, I've PMd you back.

LAN, unfortunatly it was paid for on a debit card so I have no protection. Certaily has rammed it home to me to always use credit cards in future!

I can't believe this......

Hi Outo...sorry to hear that this has happened. :( We bought our ali-panniers and our engine-bars from Paul and can't believe he would dump you in it like that. Not much use to you for me to say that ---but he has always been REALLY helpful. SOmething must REALLY be up for him to have done this...
kindest thoughts to you mate,
Moo

With regard to the above, does anyone know if Alpos panniers are still available probably under a new company?

I too have tried to contact EIBC and Paul without success. The Alpos panniers look to be just what i want. Bleeding typical, just when I want some, I can't get hold of them.

Anyone able to help?

Cheers

we're (btbc) going down to his house in the next few days to see how he is as none of have heard from him, i'll keep you posted.

He was a top guy when I got some bits for my Alpos's about 6 month ago. The panniers are made by an Italian company and can be ordered directly if you wish at about £70 each, as can the frame from another company. You'd have to source the handles etc.
