The Big Glides are fantastic to use in the USA but VERY big when used here.
They might be fantastic on long, straight, boring freeways in the US but on mountain and coastal roads, forget it.
I had two incidents with Harley riders while riding in California a couple of weeks ago.
In the first, my son and I, on GSes and our K1200R mounted buddy caught a Harley rider ascending Sonora pass, just as he was attempting to take an uphill right hand hairpin. Cue - bump, scrape, bump, scrape - while he bounces off line and ends up in the wrong lane. It was tempting to pass him on the inside at this point but we both made sure we got past him and left him to get on with his struggle, as quickly as he could.
In the second, we caught a pair of Electra Glides on Highway One in Sonoma County where the road hugs the shoreline. The second one in the group, immediately pulled into a turnout to let us past while the leader managed to baulk us in a downhill righthander. Nonetheless we were quickly past and on our way.
Sometime later we were stopped in a roadside gas station in Bodega Bay when the Harleys rumbled in. The guy who had slowed us up walked over and said, "Sorry for holding you guys up back there - I'm really burned out after doing 100 miles today." Since we're gracious, we just said "Hey, no problem", rather than pointing out that we'd already done about 300 miles on the way from Folsom that day.
The guy appeared reasonably young and fit....ok so we has clad in a wife-beater and a DOT pisspot lid...but......
It's beyond me why people buy bikes which have such heavily compromised braking and handling.
