I am thinking about getting an electric jacket liner.

There's the BMW offering - beautifully made, expensive, tight-fitting but doesn't cover your arms - comes with a two-stage switch.

Alternatively, there's the Gerbing item, looser fitting, but with arms, cheaper but really needs the additional Heat Troller to give some adjustment to the heating levels.

What are people's views on these items and what other options are available?

if you use the search facility this has been covered recently with some good advice and a good contact in Holland if I remember rightly

klan kit

Jus thought I would add my 2cents worth, been umming and ahhing 'bout this stuff for a couple of months, got home from a bit of a chiller ride, so thought bugger it. Rang all the usuals, widder, chilli, b££££mw. in the end I got a Giali [now Klan] vest heated collar and decent looking waterproof switch etc for £102. the bit that swung it was the fact that the vest looks good enough to be worn on it's own and has got a few pockets big enough to keep ya toasted sarnie's warm during a ride

Anyways, turned up next dayish, no probs -super warm heated collar as well

I have been using a BMW waistcoat over the last two years. Excellent bit of kit and I agree that once its going you don't really need sleeves as well. My only complaint is that the flexi electric cable could be a bit longer!

KLAN

If you look back to a thread about 4 weeks ago, I did a very similar investigation across the whole range of heated waistcoats etc

After much deliberation as well as trying them all on and assessing value and price I went for the KLAN waistcoat.

Only worn it twice in real anger - i.e. Very cold

Style great
Cable can tuck away into one of the pockets out of the way
Only one with sensible pockets
Look fine on away from the bike
Cheapest
Got a bit of a sweat on after 90 mins on the motorway with outside temperature at only 2 degrees

No complaints so far and for the money and speed of delivery etc highly recommended

I use a Gialli jacket liner. I'd recommend it.
It has arms that are heated down to the elbows so that the bit that takes the most cooling wind gets a bit of heat, as well as your body. Mine came with the heat controller and all cables for £120. It is quite thick and warm without having any heat on, so takes the place of any zip-out lining in your riding jacket.

Bought a chilli at the NEC and have worn it quite a bit since. Absolutely ace bit of kit. Had to turn it down a couple of times cos I started to bubble. My own concerns about whether to have arms / collar in a heated jacket have been allieved since using this. A waistcoat is plenty, because once your core is warm, your extremities are fine. I would imagine a heated collar/ arms would just be TOO much.

I'LL 2nd THE ABOVE HAD MINE FOR THREE YEARS NOW A REALLY SOUND BIT OF KIT INFINITLY VARIABLE CONTROL AND EXTRA BITS TO ALLOW YOU TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE BIKE SET UP ARE EASY AND CHEAP TO GET FROM THE SUPPLIER.
WE HAVE 2 CONNECTIONS ON BOTH BIKES AND THEREFORE OUR LASS WILL RIDE IN THE WINTER, INSTEAD OF TAKING THE CAGE.

I'll toss in a positive vote for BMW vest...It's made by Widder and while it doesn't have sleeves, I don't think it needs 'em...Keeps me warm enough and the liner in my Belstaff takes care 'o the rest...

I live 90 miles from the Canadian border and deal with seasonal snow. The Gerbings jacket liner is not bulky and and provides neck and warm warmth. With the heat-troller it provides complete control for a broad range of temperatures.

Couple my Gerbings with handlebar muffs and my 1 piece Aerostich suit and I'm good to go in any late-Fall to late-Spring weather around here.

Why give up neck and arm warmth? The Gerbings fitting has a broad range of sizes for chest circumference and arm length to provide a snug, comfortable (warm) fit.

Riding in comfort,

Chuck

PS. I have no affiliation with Gerbings, just a happy customer.
