Will the adaptors I use in France or Italy work, or will I have to buy a different one please Comrades?

exactly the same ones work fine - at least they did when I was there last week!

Not always true. Quite a few places have a an offset 3 pin set up but when this happened all the hotels/guest houses had an adapter that would then take the standard continental plug. Have one in front of me, must have unintentionally not returned it.

Some French sockets have an earth pin in the socket so make sure your adapter will take this as well as the standard continental plug

He's right you know ;)

If you find you need one, go into Migros in Interlaken West and they sell the adapters, look out round sleeve twin pin (female) that receives the 2 pin UK supplied continental adaptor plug. The other end is a triple pin (male) out with offset centre pin, it is set into a plastic (squashed) hexagon (male) plug end.

Depends whether it is the lighting circuits or appliance circuits, so some may fit standard continental adaptors and some won't as the continental twin pins are fatter.

Could post a pic if it helps but you get the gist.

Migros is here (A)

Terrific, thanx all.
The shop is only 250m from the hotel we're booked into so that looks ideal.

Many devices have those mini-kettle lead things. I find it cheaper to buy a couple of those locallyratherthan adapters.

A little tip if you're adapting the other way - continental two-pin plugs will go directly into UK sockets with a bit of waggling and a screwdriver in the earth socket.:thumb
