Riding home on Friday night noticed that my right hand indicator was on. Thought it was strange as I hadn't turned right forages. Turned it off. Half a mile further on (straight road) comes on againl. Won't cancel. Try turning left indicator on - this comes on - then able to cancel. Few hundred yards further on right one comes on again - wont cancel - try left - hazards come on!!!!

Stopped - turned off ignition - re-started - few hundred yards started again

Continued in this vein for the next 10 miles home (apologies to all drivers in Manchester/Ashton area who must have been totally confused by me!!!)

Thought might be damp in system somewhere (has been raining a bit in case you hadn't noticed) so left Saturday and out in sunshine on Sunday.

Started up Sunday and went for short ride - about 5 miles - seemed to be OK.

Rode to work today and problem started again after about 12 miles.

Anybody any ideas :nenau

Bike was dealer serviced on Thursday - possible they have done something maybe??

Will be calling them - but for some reason in their infinite wisdom they do not open on Sunday or Monday!!

Just wondered if any one had experienced similar and had quick fix?

Your switch has probably failed. There are many posts on this subject for 1150 and 1200s - not sure what you have ?

If you have a searchj through the TEchy forums there shuodlbe quite a few threads on the subject... It seems that 1150 owners are able to replace the actual failed componenetm, but it looks like us 1200 owners have to get a replacement handlebar switch unit ?

Indicator Problems

I had exactly the same problem with my 1200GS as you're having. I reckoned it was damp in the switch, even the smallest hint of moisture in the air would have the indicator coming on.

The problem was half solved when my bike was left out in the rain for a whole day. Then the indicator simply didn't work at all, ever again.

The problem was completely solved when BMW replaced the whole switch unit, but I did have to ride all the way back from south Spain first with only the right indicator.

Moisture in the switch, that's my theory.

Oh yeah, my GS is still under warranty, so taking it to a dealer wasn't an issue.

Good luck getting it fixed.
