You lot will probably tell me you've been doing this for years, but it's new to me so....
I've just got a new petrol stove (yes it's becoming a fetish) a nice Optimus 111b the petrol burning big brother to the R8...
A bit rough with several layers of thick paint with runs; blue and 2 reds!
So I rigged up a simple electrolytic bath with a 12v battery being charged with a 16 amp charger (only pulled 4 amps though) this has the negative running to the stove and the posative to a 10 inch 10mm bolt. Not letting the 2 touch (duh!) put a cup of Soda crystals in a bucket of hot water and connect the battery switching on the charger (charger is not a smooth enough DC supply so the battery acts a a filter capacitor.
After 5 mins the paint is jumping off like it's been hit with paint stripper but without melting your hands and all the rust is being cured at the same time.
After an initial speedy result it settled down and just needed a peal every half hour...
As the rust is cured the water gets murky and a brown scum forms on the bolt.
Needs a couple of hours tomorrow and I'll post the results, but I'm impressed with the ease of doing this and it's ideal for getting the inside of a tank sorted.
