Gmail should do all I want in terms of syncing my calendar, contacts and emails with push functionality on my iPhone but it's very unreliable and doesn't "push" very well!
Having trouble sourcing an alternative and don't want to go down the mobileme route - anyone got any tips??

PS. Have been on the google forum and loads of people are having the same iphone sync problems I'm having and there's no fix for it yet...

To get a service to work you are going to end up paying someone for this.

You can buy a hosted Microsoft Exchange service for any number of service providers but £5 per month is the going sting. I went with MobileMe which is a much more complete solution.

I still use Google Apps for business purposes but don't rely on their PIM solutions as they aren't mature or reliable enough - I'm sure it will come though.

Thanks Judge. I see that Gmail use microsoft exchange so I assume that the problem I'm experiencing is with google and not microsoft exchange?

I've set up and support a dozen iPhones with Exchange and not a single problem. My own phone I gave Google's services a go and no joy with anything but email, calendar was messy and I've never kept contacts on gmail in any case.

By the time I weighed up buying full Exchange services it worked out cheaper to stay with MobileMe once you take in the full suite of apps offered by it at £60 for the year.

I've used find my iPhone twice now so its more than paid for itself :blast :D

Just playing devil's advocate...

I've got an iPhone set up using Google for sync'ing calendar, mail and contacts and have never had a problem. Same with two others that I've set up the same way.

some of it can be done with this.

i have mobile me at the moment, but i don't use it for much more than mail and syncing, so i plan on ditching it at renewal.

And I was the same up until the past weekend.
No idea why it's playing up...

have discovered this:
nuevasync
seems to do the trick. there's a 5 day free trial period (which should hopefully take me through the google outage problem and then to buy it is $25 a year which is pretty good value. Does full sync of contacts and calendars and push email to iPhone.
