Hi All,

...Its me again...

What can I use as an emergency float bowl gasket?

After checking the float bowl operation, Ive snapped the gasket and fuel is "persistently leaking".

Ive ordered one, but I doubt it will arrive in time.

Regards ...again...

Maybe place the broken gasket together on a piece of tape to temporarily hold it and smear fuel resistant gasket goo over it to cover the gaps and hold it all together as one piece?

Use a piece of suitably sized string/cord covered in gasket goo to make a gasket?

A length of rubber O ring cord cut to the correct length with the ends melted and fused together to make a big O ring?

Whatever you use I wouldn’t bother with any goo. I’d rather have a bit of a leak than have any kind of goo around a carb. JJH

Ive ordered one

Probably should have ordered a few as the quality of them these days isn't really up to much and the failure rate is high. Keep a few spare to hand. BMW oem ones are the best, all the others from the independents are a bit sh*t.

I reckon Aberdeen Angus's suggestion is the most likely.

Piece of cornflake packet, cut to shape, then soak in oil.

That’s exactly what I did on my old r75/7 many moons ago, it got me by until I could get the right gaskets.

So when it gets somewhere it won’t be flushed out by the fuel. It’s a bad idea. 50p worth of gasket paper and a little tapping hammer. A leak is preferable. I have experience in this area. Not good. JJH

Clearly you missed or didn't understand the "fuel resistant" part of my post.

I didn't "miss" that part, but my experience (ex professional mechanic) confirm that any "goo" (fuel resistant or otherwise) and carburettors are generally not a good mix.

Update

Well, Just to update y'all on the progress.

I may not be as URGENT as stated - Because I got a last minute order in from Motorworks (god bless 'em..)

So Im just waiting for the gaskets to arrive in the next days.

Im trying tol get my bikes out of Switzerland (>600 Km's away) and onto a trailer under the "cover of darkness" but Ive just been told that I don't need to do that since Ive owned the bikes for at least 5 years..and hence no tax to pay

Ill keep y'all posted and thanks for the ideas.

Cheers all & festive thanks and greetings.
