Employee motorcycle training

Im looking at the possibility of putting a couple of my employees through their motorbike test, with the intention of having a response bike for site work.

I have a couple of questions if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

1. Having passed my test.... years ago... What is required now to pass your bike test, both employees are over 35 full uk driving licences

2. Has anyone else had experience of doing this for there staff ?

First they have to do a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) this is a day's training required by law - this validates their licenses and allows them to ride unaccompanied on a vehicle of up to 14.6bhp (a 125cc basically).

At the end of the CBT the instructor should be able to ascertain how much further training is needed for a full license. At our school if the student is reasonably competent then we suggest a day on a 125 and two days on a 500cc.

They will need to complete a theory test specifically for motorcycles and then take the practical test which is in two parts.....Mod 1 and Mod 2. The mod 1 requires them to carry out a series of maneouvres off the public highway at a purpose built test centre; when they have successfully passed that they then take the mod 2 which is a road ride of minimum 30 minutes.

We do corporate work for other organisations and I'm sure we could work out a package deal for you so why not give the owner, Simon Hayes, a call on 01527 500333 and have a chat with him. We are based in Redditch, Worcs so not too far if you are happy for your guys to stop over.

Probably wont do the training till April time as it's our busy time till end of March, I am sure they would prefer the better weather.

One thing to check out before you commit any cash to this idea is the insurance angle. Two recently qualified riders, business use and carrying equipment might come to many ££££££££.

Of course, if you intend to supply them with a ratty old F650 then it won't matter so much.

No - the gubbmint have announced a return to a single test but not until the end of the year.

So thats another case of Taxpayers money well spent then. So much for the need to comply with European law when the money gets tight.

Saw all the replies re the cbt training etc.........

What are you thinking with regard to the Response side of riding ?

Response is probably not the right word, just a more reactive and efficient response to some of our equipment in London.

Not an emergency, rather more reactive.
