I've always tended to wear a full face helmet having started out on sports bikes, but would be very interested in a comparison of the virtues of an enduro style melmet as compared to a full face. I don't intentionally ride off road, but do several thousand miles a year on the continent mainly in the warm. As an ex spectacle wearer I've always had problems with misting of specs and visors, and wondered whether an enduro style helmet might be better. Your advice would be gratefully received.

Misting just as bad

I find misting on my Arai Tour X to be its biggest downfall. I have to use anti fog treatments all the time to make it usable. I have not yet fitted a Fogcity (although there is one in my garage). It doesn't seem to be the right shape. Oh and the pinlock for Tour X doesn't come out til April

the bmw enduro helmet i have, has a system that stops its steaming up.....and i wear glasses, they also do a tinted visor for the summer....:thumb

Have used both Tour X and now back to a Multitech, I think you need to look at the style/type of riding you do. Personally doing more distance with a pillion I have found that the Full Face is easier to live with and obviously it has few misting problems.

My Tour X nice helmet but crap when using an intercom system a lot of internal noise production, also when really pushing on in Europe it could get uncomfortable. Oh and the smoked visor was far better at stating mist free than the clear one :nenau

Got several lids spanning 20 odd years and I know I shouldn't wear it but my old Shoei open face is great with goggles..............but as I get older I like a bit of protection and I find an MX stule lid to be superb. Loads of fresh air (we have hot summers here) a big beak to use as a sun shade, a pair of scott goggles, and an Arai sticker! (I think mine is a Lazer or something?) I also have a couple of Arai full faces or a choice of system 2, 3 or 4 for when cold.

Most of my miles though iks with the MX lid.

I used my Arai VX helmet with goggles for a trip last year. There were no problems with misting (double glazed, reactolite Pro Grip goggles) but it could get a bit chilly on the UK and Spanish legs. I use a cut down neoprene Fog mask velcroed inside the chin guard to take the windchill off in those conditions. Otherwise it was perfect, not really much noisier than my full face, up to around 85-90 mph. After that you have to be a bit careful with lifesavers, as the peak isn't as aerodynamic on a MX style lid.

I have done most of my European touring while wearing a Bell Moto 6 motocross helmet and Scott goggles with a 'half mask' which fills the gap between goggle frame and helmet, protecting the nose and upper cheeks.

I find it ideal..it fits me absolutely perfectly...it`s nice and light..the ventilation can`t be bettered...the liner is easily removed/washed/dried/refitted...the peak not only helps when heading into sun,but when it`s raining if I slightly lower my head the spray comes off the top lip of the GS screen and over the top of the helmet peak without going on the goggles.
As above,in cold weather I just tape over the vents.

It`s a noisy helmet but it is after all an off road race helmet,so I just wear earplugs (advisable anyway).

The goggles have antifog lens coating and never give any trouble.

One noticeable benefit is that I never feel that 'eyeball rolling about to nod off' drowsyness that occurs wearing 'normal' full face helmets on long days and in warm weather, due no doubt to all the fresh air I get.

Just sold my System 4 on ebay for $275 and bought a new Bell Moto 7R for $79!! Okey, so it's last seasons colors but who cares at that price.......love a bargain!

I definately prefer a motocross helmet these days especially with the big GSA screen - I find it to have a very low noise.
